As you could've guessed, OCC will once again be attending the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this year. In light of this event, we're holding another signature contest! Vasto was the winner of last year's contest (you can view all contest winners here) You can view OCC's coverage of CES'07 here.

The rules for this contest are simple:

1.) Must be your own work, NO ripping off other people/sites.

2.) Give credit if you are using a render, or other stock piece of imagery.

3.) NO Pornography.

4.) NO Vulgar Language.

5.) List ALL programs used.

6.) List approximate time to create.

7.) Image must be smaller than 480x90px and 60kb in size

8.) Maximum of two entires per person

9.) Contest is open to ANY OCC member (this includes staff)

10.) Must contain the CES and OCC logo

Winner of this contest will receive a mystery box of prizes that will contain various freebies from manufactures at CES. (and maybe more)

*Unless the winner is an OCC staff member & is attending CES '08, in which case the prize will be given to the next person who is not attending CES'08

You have until Sunday, December 30th @ 11:59PM CST to submit your entries in this thread

After viewing the past winners of sig contests, it seems quite clear that non-animated sigs are preferred.

I always thought it would be quite the opposite, just because in my own thread browsing, I don't even notice sigs that are static. I'm just so used to reading the posts and skipping over the signature stuff that it only catches my eye when there is movement.

I suppose it's different though when you are purposely looking at sigs. Guess I need to work on my PS skills. :)

I dunno, I thought people would prefer animated... I really don't like gif sigs though, unless they're awesome... I may challenge myself and try one out for this comp

They are very distracting to me, I adblock them...

lol, I think what you did for the Xmas contest looks challenging to me. A gif would probably be quite easy for you.:)

Hmm, I didn't consider that, good point.

The problem with most animated sigs is that, as rr said, they often tend to be more distracting than anything else. Subtle animations are fine, but often amateur work looks choppy. Also, static ones mean you see the whole thing right away, whereas you have to wait and watch animated ones, which sometimes you don't catch right when they begin. I dunno...I like some animated stuff (thus, my avatar), but only to an extent.

heres mine, It has the ces logo from lego's link, and the occ logo from some website. Oh, I used gimp and it took about a half hour.

edit: I forgot to mention, the list idea was inspired by brewmeisters entry in the last contest. Hope thats alright with you man.

I've got my entry #1 down, but I'm having trouble compressing it to lower than ~650kb.... anyone know a good method/app for squeezing animated gif images?

Edit: Maybe alter the rules to allow animated gifs to be under 700kb? :P It's already down to 12fps as it is!
