RedDragon Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 ok I have a strict budget of $200~ 230 I have to spend on an upgrade. I will be updating the rig in my sig. I am only getting a new Mobo, Proc, and Ram, no need for a new vid card, just got the X1900GT in Oct. for $90 off the egg, everything else will be used. Must haves for mobo: 4 slots for ram, decent northbridge, must have 2GB's of ram, want a proc 4800+ or later. wish list I threw together: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishli...ListTitle=parts
kingdingeling Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Intel E2140 - 74$ Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - 97$ A-Data Value DDR2-800 CL5 2x1GB - 37$ = 208$ Much better than the AMD system you have priced out, as this will allow for much more performance when you overclock. As for the A-Data Value Memory, I have that exact set, and they're great for overclocking! 450MHz @ CL4 easily!

Save more for a real upgrade.
kingdingeling Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 @ Bleeble, why not? Look at the system I priced out, it's quite good for the money invested.
RedDragon Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 (edited) Not going to explain my financial situation, but the only time I'd get more cash would be next christmas, so I am getting this now. Don't like the way the 2140 stacks up against the 4800 in this benchmark http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.htm...4&chart=422 Edited December 17, 2007 by RedDragon

Don't like the way the 2140 stacks up against the 4800 in this benchmark http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.htm...4&chart=422 You do realize that's stock v stock, right? Once you start overclocking the e2140 the x2 4800 can't compete. You're also looking at 3GHz easy with the DS3L that King linked. Heck, you don't even have to go that far for it to exceed the x2 4800+. /Off Topic My folks decided to surprise me for christmas by ordering me an e2140 as well! Only thing I'm complaining about is that they decided to skimp out on the mobo. Big time. They ordered a Foxconn 945G7MC-KS2HV for it and that makes me want to Oh well, I'll most likely have the mobo swapped out with a DS3L that King linked come january!
