marino13 Posted December 29, 2001 Posted December 29, 2001 What is the best way to remove the stock gummy compound that usually ships with the AMD cpu heatsink and fan. It required the removal of plastic before installing. The heatsink is from AVC. This is not a grease compound such as artic silver. I can't find any postings on this subject reguarding this particular compound. Thanks for any help.

Guest FreakyDrOverclock Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 if you mean the square on the bottom of your heatsink just cut it of (knife) and then clean it with sandpaper until its as smooth as a babies .
Mandelbrot5 Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 I tryed the scraping off with a knife and sanding bit, but it's very hard to get the heatsink to be total flat. That creates 2 issues, one is that if the heat sink isn't total flat it is less able to transfer heat away from your proc. Second is the risk of small nicks in the sink scratching your proc, especialy on AMD chips, as the core is exposed to the world. What I use to remove any goo or wax is acetone. It takes EVERYTHING off the heatsink but the the heatsink itself. Oil from your hands, dead skin tha falls off your hands will seriously cutdown on how well your sink will pull heat off a proc. If your overclocking thats not good. BTW it will also strip that nasty "Microsoft" logo off of your mouse/joystick
