Waco Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Does anybody know what the socket for the phenom will be??? AM2+ IIRC.
Verran Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 When are these new proc's supposed to be out? Within the next few weeks for the Phenom. AM2+ IIRC. Yep, AM2+. They will be partially compatible with the existing AM2 (non plus), but will not be fully functional. The new AM2+ boards will put them to full use. Hence some of the low benchmarks since their are no full functional AM2+ boards out yet. Not to mention the hacked together BIOS'es. Just like all other computer hardware releases, the best thing to do is to wait untill the product release for the non-biased benchmarks and reviews. Andrewr05 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 AMD plans on producing/selling tri-core processors as well. How it works: If a quad-core chip was to be clocked at lets say 2.66Ghz and one of the 4 cores only did 2Ghz then AMD would then either sell them as a 2Ghz quad-core chip or a tri-core 2.66Ghz chip at a marked down price... 3 cores sounds weird but if you can get them for cheap then why not? Yep. For the growing number of multithreaded apps, the tri-core will still be a performance benefit, and it will be cheap too. bigred Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 ehhhh.... I'm not to sold on the fundamental concept of the tri-core chips with symetrical multi processing (SMP). symetry is just a little tough with 3 cores. anyone who feels like it, go grab a quad socket server board and watch what happens when you only put 3 cpu's in it... it's not happy
