Help! My processor is burning up!

Recommended Posts

I have an Athlon XP 1700 under a volcano 5 with some heatsink compound I got at radio shack.  The temps at 61, what can I do to cool it down?  I have 2 80mm case fans and a fan card under the agp card.  Is this normal - what am I doing that's making it so hot?  Thanks for anyone that replies.

not normal..

go in to your bios and look for your vcore voltage (cpu voltage)

change it to 1.70 and reboot. if your system boots and is stable, leave it at that. it should drop your temps about 5-10

Thanks a lot for the reply, here's my question:  I don't know how to change the voltage settings.  I went into my bios and went to where it shows the temp and voltage settings, but I couldn't change it at all, couldn't even select it.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

your prob viewing the temp monitoring page..

if you dont see voltage settings anywhere else in the bios, then your motherboard/bios prob doesnt support it.

however, look in your motherboard manual. you might find some settings in there that allows you to change the voltage by moving some jumpers around on your motherboard
