Upgrade the past or jump into the future?

Hey everyone. i've been doing alot of research lately and recently picked up a second 7950 Gt KO new in box on ebay hoping to run my current one and this new one in SLI since i've never had a sli setup before but im starting to wonder if i am just wasting my time with these cards and if i should just sell them both and upgrade to a 8800GTS??? The single 7950 i have now runs great and i've never had any problems out of it. It overclocks easy and is very dependable thats why i figured running two of these badass's would give me some killer fps or if i just need to get out while i still can and get hooked up with DX10 and maybe give vista a shot. You guys know alot more about overclocking then i do thats why im on here asking for some advice. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. BTW I purchased my first 7950 for about 360.00 a year ago and got this second one for 160 brand new so i dont have an extreme amount invested but not a little pocket change either. WHAT WILL I EVER DO????

Well, if you already bought the second 7950, then it sounds like you already made this decision :P

I've said this many times before, and I'll say it one more. This whole DX10 thing seems pretty overdone at the moment. Smoke looks a little "smokier", and water looks a little more "watery". Yeah, that's neat, but pardon me if I don't rush to change my pants. It's nothing earth-shattering IMO.

The 88xx cards are great. I would consider buying them for the performance, regardless of the DX10 stuff. But if you've already got a powerful solution like 2x 7950gt's, I'd just use them for what they are and wait out the whole DX10 thing a bit longer. Wait for some games to come out that REALLY use it, and then make the upgrade.

lol, sounds like you bought a second card without a NEED. How many games do you have that your signle struggles with? when that number gets annoyingly high, then upgrade but you are just wasting money atm tbh

There are plenty of games out right now that can top out a 7950gt. If you play at 1024 on a 17" monitor, then yeah another card is a waste. But if you play at 1600 or higher and like cranking the detail up, it's not really a waste at all. In fact, in the next few months, we're going to see plenty more games that put that kind of power to use.

I'm running all of my games at 1680x1050 on a 22" LG FLATRONWide with all the settings max'd out. Mostly i play CSS, Call of Duty 2, Half-life 2. so far the only game that really stresses my single card i have now is CSS when im playin on my own server against like over 10 bots then it starts gettin a little slow but im hopin that after i get this sli setup done i'll be able to do like 50 cuz that'd be badass..lol. Well those are the games i play the most and thats my resolution and monitor so any other advice would be appreciated. Also one more thing do any of you guys use those ageia physX cards? are they worth the money or just a waste? Thanks again, later. Matt

then you should maybe consider a reformat, as annoying as they can be, it's the best solution to any computer problem :)

Sounds like somebody got hired by geek squad!

I don't know if SLI would help with your CSS problem since I do that as well(9 bots and all) and I know that it's my CPU messing with my performance. I get a good 8fps avg drop in fps going from 2.7GHz to 2.3GHz with bots in CSS. Other than that specific scenario, my rig tears through CSS at all max! :D

erm... no, there is no geek squad, or best buy for that matter, in Germany ;) That's just my solution, fix it until you find something that continues to bother you / somehow won't get fixed, and that's when I dig out that trusty old XP Pro CD :)

Nobody wants to admit it but the good ol' reformat is everyones final solution...and if it doesn't work...well, maybe tears will magically fix the problem...
