lost Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) he's having problems with an iPod. the iPod detects on his girlfriends laptop. the iPod gets detected on my computer. for some reason his computer can't detect the iPod. he took it to Geek Squad and their computer couldn't detect the iPod and the say it's a problem with the chip and told him to send it to apple to get it fixed. can solutions? the iPod does have the harddrive function (where u can use it as a HD and use other programs like Winamp to load and unload songs) if it didn't work in any computer, id get it's a problem with the iPod, but it's being rather selective. Makaveli Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Has he tried reseting the iPod? What about making sure the latest software updates are installed on the iPod (check via the girlfriend's comp)? I'm not sure if that does anything but it never hurts... ClayMeow Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 First off, how many hard drives and/or mapped drives and/or virtual drives does he have in his computer? If there is a drive letter conflict (eg. iPod wants to use "F" but he already has an "F" drive), then it won't show up in My Computer. Go to Disk Management (Right-click My Computer, Select Manage, Click Disk Management) and see if you see it there...if you do, right-click it and change the drive letter. Secondly, often times, Windows doesn't like two different devices sharing the same USB port. If Windows is used to something else being connected there, it may not recognize anything else but that other device. Try a port that you know was never used...or try and uninstall drivers for previous devices.
