this has to be bad...

Recommended Posts

a friend ran 3dmark 06 with the fan not running on his heatsink...

apparently he had a wire clamped between the fan blade and the fins.

i would think this is something you would never want to see when removing the CPU.

i cannot even pry the lower section of the chip from the socket.

and this was an X6800...

man... that sucks lol... even software temp monitoring would have prevented this... Intel TAT or CoreTemp are both reasonably accurate...

the photo is a bit blurred, but is the plastic component of the socket melted and warped??? :O

it is a little warped...

when i removed the heatsink, the top of the CPU came with it.

i was going to try and get the base out of the socket put the pieces back together, and try to send it to Intel under warranty.

the PC did reboot when this happened.

it then made it into windows once...and shutdown again.

he then got the no video signal error, and sent it to me to be fixed.

the chip is melted into the socket...

sigh...

Hold on... are you thinking that the pins have detached from the CPU and are stuck in the socket? The CPU never had pins on it in the first place :P It's supposed to be like that.

If that's not what you're thinking, then, well, I can't see it
