nVidia_Freak Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Whenever I have to screw something in, I usually just do one screw to see if it fits and holds. If it does, I'll look for however many more I need. But sometimes when I'm tired or just not enthused, I'll throw in any screws that fit. lost Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) remind me to not buy any parts from you... ever lol, i have like 4 or 5 different screws in my screw bag that came with my case. how on earth am i suppose to know what goes where? i just put in whatever fits, not to tight not to loose. not unless you have a diagram of each specific screw and where i need to screw it? :-P Whenever I have to screw something in, I usually just do one screw to see if it fits and holds. But sometimes when I'm tired or just not enthused, I'll throw in any screws that fit. lol i do the exact same thing XD Edited September 28, 2007 by lost
Kamikaze_Badger Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 You'll learn which ones fit by the threads and heads.
nVidia_Freak Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 You'll learn which ones fit by the threads and heads. Yeah, I'm usually pretty good at telling whether or not they'll work. But some of those bastards are deceiving!
SMeeD Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I learned not to just use any screw when I decided to take out my motherboard for the first time. I dont know what the heck I was thinking when I built it but it was hell extracting some many overtightened, wrong thread screws from my standoffs. hardnrg Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 there are two major threads, M3 and then 6-32... M3 is used on optical drives, floppy drives, and sometimes for the screws that go into motherboard standoffs... 6-32 screws go into the side of harddrives, hold PCI cards in place, fix the PSU in place, and pretty much every case screw... then there are self-tapping screws for fans... that's about it... M3 is a fine thread, 6-32 is coarser, and then fan screws have massive threads...

Made the mistake of not doing that during the original assembly and I could barely get my 7600GT out because of that. Luckily for me, it was nothing that some elbow grease, copious profanity and my trusty chromed vanadium screwdriver couldn't fix. hardnrg Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Hardnrg, is there anything you don't know? there are loads of things I don't know, and I'm far from an expert at what I do know...
Andrewr05 Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 I usually put in whatever fits, I've never had a problem with not having the correct screw I guess... The only thing I would be worried about is motherboard standoff screws, always use the correct ones for those...
