replacing thermal paste

Just wanted to know, how often should the thermal paste be replaced?

Should you mess with if the temps are good?

I'm sure a lot of you have a rig like mine that you spent a lot of time cleaning up the wiring, and the thoughts of that are overwhelming

I was curious if there was a set time frame.

Thanks. ;)

As long as temps dont change for the worst I dont see a reason to replace it. Ive never heard of a set time frame for replacing something like AS5 but your probably going to replace it from buying a new HSF, CPU or whatever else before the paste starts to fail.

If I didn't change the heatsink or do something that required new thermal paste, I'd probably never change it. I know that AS5 supposedly seperates after so many years, but I don't think that most OCC members keep their PCs untouched for long enough to care. Actually, I don't think that most OCC members keep their PCs for long enough to care.

I'd say once every year or two if you're paranoid.

I've changed mine every six months, but just like everyone said before me, it's usually because of an upgrade or an entire system overhaul. Follow Smeed's advice. If your temps are quite good, then let it be. If not, change it.

As the guy said in a movie i watch not too long ago (soldiers)

"My daddy was in maintenance and he said if it aint broke dont fix it "

I find it's a good saying to follow and applies in many life situations

even when time comes to change thermal paste lol

My rig never stays together long enough to even worry about it. I do have a P4 1.6a sitting behind me that had the AS% applied several years ago. I have not seen an increase in temperatures that was noticeable unless the dust bunnies took over.
