Shadin Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Hey everyone, I'm going to upgrade my 7600GT, but I don't want a DX10 card due to the fact that there aren't going to be native DX10 engines out for quite some time. I'm curious about which X1950 I should go with, the XT or the PRO. Both are basically the same price, except the PRO has 512MB of RAM and the XT has 256MB. The only comparisons I can find only compare the 256MB PRO, and the main one is from THG who I generally don't trust.
gotdamojo06 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I will just say that I have a HIS X1950 PRO 512MB and it is great, runs cool and quiet and the graphics are great!
Silverfox Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I have an XT which is very nice, but see if you can find a direct comparison (hunt a bit). Of course, the XT has faster clock speeds, but are you going to need all of the 512MB of memory?
iKillSteal Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 The x1950XT and X1950PRO run pretty much head to head. x1950XT is really only about 10% better than the pro and that's really not all that much. I'd go with whichever card is cheaper because performance is about the same. You won't be disappointed with whichever you decide to go with. iKillSteal Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Is that comparing the 512MB Pro or the 256MB Pro? That's both with 256MB. I wouldn't imagine that the extra memory would make all that much of a difference except at higher resolutions but at 16*12 and below they run very similarly. bigred Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 the extra 256mb doesn't do much besides pad the price and make the marketing departments happy
Shadin Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Thanks for the replies, all. For those interested, I found a pretty good review that seems to indicate the X1950XT is the way to go. It also happens to be cheaper than the X1950PRO 512MB right now, so it's win-win. http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view....;cid=3&pg=
road-runner Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I read at the Folding forum if your going to use them to fold get the 512mb otherwise I guess its not necessary?

I did plan on folding with it, but since it's primarily for gaming I really need to put the money where the performance wins out. Ziggy54354 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Id go with the XT, i have the 512mb version but i think the 256mb comes stock with 1.8ghz mem which is nice. also 48 shaders vs 36 shaders... the extra 256mb wont make as big as a difference as the extra memory bandwidth and fillrate
alce11 Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I'm a bit undecided between the pro and xt and since many of you have the xt, is it it very noisy?
