Overclocker16 Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 When I am building my gaming comp, I am going to be building a F@H comp. It will be dual MP 2400+'s. Now cooling. I am buying OEM (cheaper) and was wondering what kind of cooling I can put on them? I want to put on the SLK-900, but I don't know if they will fit with 2 next to eachother. What do you guys think? I would do water cooling, don't know if I will have that much extra cash.
philterlecki Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 dont bother using Dual CPU's for a gaming PC, they are only good for servers. And if you think dual Cpu would be twice as fast at single CPU there not. Their just good for multi-tasking operations. Id sudjest getting a 2100 t-bred and using "H@F" if your not gonna do agressive overclocking. But if you wanna push it to the max go with water cooling. Overclocker16 Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 (edited) I am getting this for F@H. So I can run 2 F@H apps at the same time. 1 on each CPU. This is just a spare system. Just for F@H and maybe eventually a server. My gaming comp is gonna be kick A$$. I am going WC (water cooling) on the gaming comp. If I have money then go with water cooling on the dual CPU? I was hoping to save money and get a better vid card or more memory for it... PS: I never said this dual CPU would be for gaming. cptkook Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 the first line of your post can be interpreted as building one system depending on how fast you read it... anway, depending on what dual mobo you get there is plenty of spacing between the sockets for the SLK900's or water cooling. And you can OC a dual mobo, it just depends on the mobo options. Also why not have a dual cpu for gaming? your game runs on one CPU and everything else runs on the other with out slowing anything down. Or you can use one cpu for f@h and the other for a game server. Many possiblities.
Overclocker16 Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 That's what I was thinking. I don't know yet. This all depends on how much money I have.
meeeeee Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Hey I have a a7m266-d (dual board) and i tryed puting Volcano 9s on it and they didn't fit not because they touch each other put because their were some resistors in the way so im sticking with te retail fans untill i get enought money for water colling. I dunno the sizeof the SLK-900 but i dont think it's gonna fit.
intel_inside Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 the slk-900 is alot bigger than a v-9 so it might not work but there might be more space on a diff mobo
mxrider623 Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 well the bottom of the SLKs are curverd so there might be enough room but it would be a very close fit.
bandwith Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 i have the asus a7m266-d and there is no way that the SLK900 would fit.. unless two things happened. 1) you went with pci video card 2) have a huge case where the PS wouldnt be in the way
steve burnell Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 i have a dual mp2200+ system on a tiger tyan board and use 2 volcano 7+ heatsinks works well, getting temps of around 39-42 Oc on each cpu
bigred Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Oc'n a dualie isn't recomended. Look aroudn and you won't see guys oc'n em (I know I won't). Anyhow the V9 will fit on a asus A7m266-d (or it's variants). However it's not really needed. I get no better cooling with a v9 than the much smaller alpha pal205's and 60mm delta fans. btw in games based on the Q3 engine there is a way to enable SMP support. This gives a pretty good advantage over uniprocessor systems, but ONLY in those games.
