Slightly wet would be better, you'd have less chance of metal dust getting into the cpu.

Not really! If the choice is metal dust or metal sludge I'll take me chances with the dust, Hence the taping part of the project. Plus if you blow it off after each round you will be fine.

I think you sold me. I was going to use the platic protector thingy that came on it in the box and put maksing tape over the edges like you did anyway. I'll used some compressed air after each round. I am thinking of buying 400, 600, 800, and maybe 1000 grit paper.
