HogDog Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Hey there, I'm sorta pondering upgrading my rig in the near future, I figure I'd just keep my HDDs, dvd drive, crappy sound card, and PSU. My goal is to keep it under $1000 so this is what I'm thinking. C2D e6420 2.13 ghz 4mb L2 cache - $186 eVGA 8800gts 640 - $50-$60 (Step-up Program) EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI - $229 Ram: I need some suggestions. -Thanks
WhenKittensATK Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 (edited) This RAM is great if your overclocking. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231065 Edited July 2, 2007 by Krazyxazn
caffeinejunkie Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 If you aren't set on 4mb cache then Id suggest the e4300. I have mine at 3.5ghz w/ 1.45v. If my DS3 would boot past 400fsb I could easily get 3.6ghz which is a 100% speed increase on a $115 cpu. With the cash you save you might be able to get a 8800gtx (not sure on the setup price). Oh and for the memory Id recommend this Gskill. If you dont like the white spreaders dont worry because they're actually blue. I've had them over 1100mhz at 5-5-5-15 and run them right now at 1065 5-5-5-15 2.2v.
HogDog Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 well the I already did the step-up, I would have gotten the GTX but i didn't have the money at the time and it was a last minute thing, On the 90th day I looked at eVGAs site and saw i could step up from a 320 to a 640 for only the cost of shipping. But if I were to say get another 640 and SLI them would my PSU be able to handle it? I have a 620 watt Ethermax liberty. Thanks for the replies. jammin Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 You mean "Enermax". It should be able to handle a couple of 8800 640 GTS cards, yes.

kingdingeling Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I wouldn't be too sure of that, 2x8800GTS 640's will drain a lot of power! It's definetly worth a try, but maybe you'll need to upgrade your PSU later down the road.

That one seems too expensive. G.Skill HZ is what you want. I don't know if that's what you picked but it's $130 on Newegg. You can get the Ultra-120 Extreme for $55 at Petra's Tech Shop. HogDog Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Heres the ram, I don't see anything that says HZ on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231114 -Thanks, HogDog

Meh, the E4300 may as well suck though, as mine does! @hog, that looks like a nice upgrade, however I agree with Bleeble that a P35 mobo might be all you need if you're not gonna run SLI.
