Newbie With An Amd Athlon 1800+xp

Recommended Posts

hi chaps, i'm glad i found you, because i think my query is easy to answer for you experts LOL.

i have an ASUS A7V133-c in jumperless mode, i put in an AMD duron 800 it worked perfectly.

i then upgraded it to an AMD athlon 1800+xp and the bloomin thing will only run at the speed of a 1700+xp CPU ????????????/

i did try changing it to Jumper mode and setting 11.5 * 133 but it still didnt go right, possibly worse if anything.

i have since read the manual three times from front to back and i wonder should i be changing the voltage as well ??????????/

THE ONLY TROUBLE BEING THAT I DONT KNOW (and cant find out) WHAT THE VOLTAGE SHOULD BE.

does anyone here have any ideas, i dont want to try and overclock it yet, i just want it to run at its proper speed.

cheers chaps

tim

Well

This is my guess the multiplier is not set on the default 13x. So when ven though you have the default fsb of 133mhz ur multiplier is not on the default setting which may cause the cpu to only run at the speed of an 1700+. Also the default Vcore voltage is usually 1.6-1.65. only increase the voltage for o/c.

Also whne you say ur changing the jumper. Wat jumpres are you fiddling around wid?? beacuse ther are like 3-5 jumpers on an average board...

The A7V133-C is a Thunderbird/Duron motherboard and only supports processors from 550Mhz ~ 1.3Ghz, so I'm suprised it even ran at the 1.47Ghz (1700+ speed).

Doesn't look like any of the latest BIOS revisions for that board would help either.

As far as the default voltage, it shouldn't matter what your voltage is set to, I've run mine when not OC'd on the lowest setting available with my board, to as high as possible with my board when OC'd.

Dave: The default multiplier for the AMD XP 1800+ is 11.5. ---- 11.5 x 133.33 = 1.53
