Guest Fried_fry Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I currently use iTunes for my main music player, but i find it uses up a lot more system resources than it really should for a media player, and i also use winamp when doing other things so it doesnt lag at all (where itunes can ever once in a while). Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a media player I can use that can have the same type of organization as iTunes does but uses like as much system resources as winamp. Any help would be great, thanks
coolcat97 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Well, for me its windows media player. Better than iTunes (i think) and used 0-1% of my two cores
jammin Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) I personally use windows media player as well. That's mainly because I like the visual library and have all the album art etc. It isn't a huge resource hog like iTunes is, but I'm sure there are players that use less. If you like low resources, try foobar. You probably won't like your library options with that much though. Another option is MediaMonkey. Lots of options there, and in ways is quite similar to iTunes. not sure how it compares with resource use to WMP, but it may be a bit less. As a sidenote, I'm still keeping up with the development of Songbird. At the moment it's still in the early-ish stages though and does use a lot of resources. Interesting though. Andrewr05 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Another vote for foobar2000 as well, in my opinion it is one of the best low profile low resource player out there. (for Windows at least)
nVidia_Freak Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I will second Foobar. A simple but neat setup with Foobar using Columns UI doesn't take that long. Here's how I have mine configured: Simple. Plus, for me, it uses around 3.5MB while minimised in the task bar and about 7MB when it's in full view. As for general video media, VLC is excellent. SMeeD Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Im partial to winamp myself. I like its compactness and its worked well for me ever since I tried it.
