MesaRecCrew Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 What would be the best intel cpu that i can overclock? I am planning on replacing it in a couple months as soon as the q drops in money?? I need to get a motherboard as well. I would like to get a motherboard that will support c2d and the q6600. I want to upgrade the cpu without upgrading the motherboard. Im brand new here so I hope that I am not being nusence or anything. I just never seem to make a wise deal on anything and for once I want to make sure I purchase the best right stuff the first time. Thank you in advance! David
Guest ajmatson Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 In this months CPU magazine they took a C2D E4300 and an EVGA 680i LT board and overclocked it to 2.96GHz stable beating out the Core 2 Extreme X6800 in 12 of the 13 benchmarks. It was only slower in F.E.A.R. because of the cache difference. Not bad for about $300 +/-
MesaRecCrew Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 (edited) Thank you so much for your responce! I really, really appreciate this! So I am going to go with this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188013 or should a spend a lil more on the e6320? They are within 50$ of each other! ??? And the E3400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115013 processor This might be the best site ever! I would have gotten the LT if it would have been out. The LT is cheaper and it has almost all of the same features.
MisFiT_ Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I read a article on E6300 and they overclocked it to like 3.4 Ghz stable on air but if you want the 4MB cache then go with other C2D. E6300 has 2MB (If you don't know)
kendellrt Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 From what I have read you may not be able to overclock the 4MB of cache as well as a chip with the 2. However, the difference in the cache size will make up for that.
kingdingeling Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I don't know about prices, but the E4300 is a good band for the buck, the E6320 has 4MB Cache, but I think it's a decnt bit more expensive
kendellrt Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I read the article in CPU about the E4300 on the EVGA 680i LT, and I would be game for it if I was going to build new again.
robAP Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 (edited) now they did that just on a peltier cooling block.....with fans. imagine a water setup or better yet, nrg's water assisted peltier block that he just reviewed would really drop the gloves for a good overclock.
