Memtest86+

So I have been fiddling with Memtest86+ for a bit now, and can't figure out how to even open the program, lol. I had always just used Orthos to stress the ram, but I want to test it with Memtest as well. I have both the .bin and .iso versions of the files but I don't know how to run either. What happened to the good old .exe files? =\

The readme didn't help me much either, as stating:

"There is no visible file here.

Memtest86+ is located on the bootsector of this CD.

Just boot from this CD and Memtest86+ will launch."

I do know an ISO is some kind of simulated CD image, but I have no idea how to boot from an ISO, let alone one that is hidden. Thanks.

burn the ISO to a cd

Insert CD, Burn Image (pick the iso file), hey presto... done...

or... you can make a DOS floppy bootdisk (I use a Win98SE bootdisk from bootdisk.com) and put Memtest86+ on it

(NOTE: Memtest86+ is a pure dos application, Memtest86 is a linux application, the former is a program you run in DOS, the latter is an application that runs from a linux bootcd (that the ISO is))

or... you can make a USB flash drive bootdisk (see guide in my sig) with Memtest86+ on it

You burn the ISO to a cd, reboot, launch from CD.

Now, I'm no rocket scientist but I'm sure a google search would have found that answer.

Appreciate the help, but I didn't even know what to search for. The things I did search for didn't give me what I wanted. Now that you pointed me in the right direction, though, I will be able to accomplish this =)

Now I'll just Google some progs that can burn ISO images and be good to go from there.

I have never really done anything with CD burning other than making a few MP3 CD's years ago, so sorry for the n00bish question. I know a lot about many aspects of computers but am not ashamed to admit when I am clueless with something and need help. Thanks again.

Blah, I hate feeling like an idiot. So it isn't hard to find info on how to burn an ISO file to a CD, but where in the hell is this ISO file at? The readme itself explains that there is no visible file. How do I select the file I wish to burn onto the CD if I cannot see any files? Do I burn the whole .zip file onto the disc? That doesn't make much sense to me, as I don't see how I could boot from a zipped file. Sorry guys, but I'm just not getting it =*(

do you know how to unzip a file?

the file inside the zip archive is an iso file... there are a billion programs that can burn an iso file to a disc...

I think we're on a different page. Inside of my Memtest86.zip file there is one file and one file only, and it is readme.txt. That text document states the following:

"There is no visible file here.

Memtest86+ is located on the bootsector of this CD.

Just boot from this CD and Memtest86+ will launch."

If I had a visible file like Memtest.Iso there wouldn't be any problem. I can't select an ISO to burn, though, if I have no visible ISO file to select. What does it mean when it says "Memtest86+ is located on the bootsector of this CD"? What bootsector of what CD? All I have is a zipped .txt file.

No, I got it now. Thanks very much for the offer, though. My problem was I wasn't getting that the .txt file WAS the .iso file. I'm burning that file to a CD now =)
