Flytarget Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Has anyone here used this card? I am thinking about getting this card from newegg and some reviews are good and some are bad. I really think that the ones that are bad are from people who don't know what they are doing. One guy said that nvidias drivers will not work and that you have to use the ones on the cd. Can anyone shed light on this card. Thanks XFX 7950 GT
bigred Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 performance is pretty decent for the $$$. however I've had lots of issues with XFX and thier parent company PINE in the past. but it's been a LONG time since I've dealt with thier products afte the bad taste left in my mouth (PLENTY of bad mobos like 4+ years ago). kingdingeling Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 If I were you, I'd get an X1950Pro, mainly cause the 7950GT will be bored in your rig! The CPU will be a bottleneck there, but also because of price to performance! In some games/benchmarks, the X1950Pro beats the 7950GT, in all reviews it comes very close, but it sells at a lot less! Verran Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I'd also say the 1950Pro is a better buy in that price range. The performance/price ratio on the 1950Pro is really outstanding at the moment.
Gr4vitas Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I own the EVGA 7950 GT KO, best card i've ever owned. Runs all my games max, no issues. Oblivion Farcry anything you throw at it it just eats alive. Never had a single issue with it.
Verran Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I own the EVGA 7950 GT KO, best card i've ever owned. This is sort of an odd statement. Shouldn't every card you buy be the best card you've ever owned? My Viper 770 Ultra was the best I'd had until I got my GF3 Ti 200, which was the best til I got my 5900 XT, which was the best til I got my 6800GT... 7800GT, etc.
bigred Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 actually I just looked at your system specs... and unfortunately I can't tell if you have an AGP variant of the vid card (I'm not even sure such a thing exists either). where as the 1950pro DOES come in an AGP variant. which the mobo in your sig uses. Flytarget Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 They do sale the 7950 in an AGP varient on newegg. Do you think that I would be ok with my power supply with the 1950pro. I have heard that those use a lot of power, however my psu has never let me down thus far. Also which company do you recommend with a 1950pro? I have used Sapphire in the past and was disappointed. Thanks
bigred Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 you'll be fine there. the x1950pro is actually a better AGP choice than anything nvidia has to offer.

Thanks I just did some googling and from what I can see, the 7950gt is rated at 82W while the 1950Pro is around 70W. Either way, I think you'll be perfectly fine with the specs in your sig. kingdingeling Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 270$ for a 7950GT AGP?! Holy crap dude, the X1950Pro AGP comes in at a more than 60$ less!
Flytarget Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Ok after doing some more research I have decided on the HIS 512Mb 1950pro Turbo with IceQ3 cooler. Thanks for all of your advice guys.
