cheesewiz6 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Ok I am setting up a friends computer its a new media center I have an ATI TV Wonder 6500 HD. I want to hook up a digital cable box for extenede channels and use and antenna for local hd. I can get the Antenna no problem. I can go to the set up for set top boxes and do most but I don't use a IR controller link I just want to use the regular cable remote to change channels. I can see the set top in set up and even change channels like I want to but when i exit set up i can't find a source select feature to toggle between the antenna and the set top box. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bigred Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 media center, regardless of OS version does not support ATI tuners. check with MS for supported hardware.

coolcat97 Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 OK, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediace.../directory.mspx Now, true this is XP but I bet its the same for vista. Of cource, it will run. But it may not run inside of Microsoft's Application for watching TV. You need to see if it is compatible with Windows Vista Premium's MEC. cheesewiz6 Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Ok lets just say I am using any compatable tuner card with a composite video in as well as a HD tuner and I want to switch back and forth between my two sources how do I do it? Cause that is the issue not if it is compatable.
bigred Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 with a compatible tuner you'd have the abilty to use the setup utility in media center to configure it the way you need it. however if no compatible tuner is availible it won't even give you the option. cheesewiz6 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 (edited) For the last time it is Windows Vista Home Premium Certified. I didn't buy it till I was sure of it. I can get it to work with one input or the other and if I hook both of them up at the same time the high def antenna works but I can't figure how to switch inputs to the cable box. Lets pretend we have a cable box and a HD antenna hooked to a TV at the same time on 2 different inputs you hit the source button on the remote to toggle back and forth (in some cases it is also called Input or TV/Video ETC.). Please don't tell me that a dang $100 cheap tv can take two inputs sources but a 2000 dollar comp with software from one of the best software companies in the world can't. Or even better the pricer windows media center can't but the free stuff that came in the box would be able too if it where able to load in vista. All I want to know is how to change input sources in media center. If you don't know please don't say its not compatible. Like I said I have both sources working I just don't know what hot key I would use to toggle between them. The reason i know they are both working is I do TV set up set top box for the cable box and about half way through it says what input source is the set top box hooked to and it shows all the inputs on my tv card under the winows media center set up when i select the composite video input in the set up menu there is a small screen which shows what my cable box is tuned to at the time south park and i changed a few channels just to make sure and it was all good. Then i go and set up the HD tuner to the antenna and scan for channels and go to live tv to get I see the high def channels. Now that I have the set top box and the HD set up How do I jump between them. Edited June 18, 2007 by cheesewiz6
cheesewiz6 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Check out these links if you don't think it is compatible. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16815294001 http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3055145 http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductDe...0650&oid=19 Website one is new egg where I bought it read the reviews. Website two is ATI's website where it says Windows Premium Certified (all versions of windows vista premium have Windows media center). Website three right from microsoft. cheesewiz6 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Would love too but you know how windows is with oem software and Ati is not open till tomarrow. I am not a patient person !
bigred Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 it IS certified to work in vista... it IS certified to work in XP media center edition... you're correct there. but it's only 1/2 of the issue. ATI did NOT get certified for drivers within the actual windows media center application. with that said, asking microsoft for help configuring an ATI product within the MC interface will get you one response... buy a haupage or avermedia tuner on the supported list. hence the reason the all in wonder and TV wonder have reached the end of thier lives. ATI had discontinued them due to lack of windows MCE support.
