E4300 Wont post above 315FSB

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've been looking for help with this problem everywhere and no one has been able to help me resolve it (if it can be done).

I'm a novice overclocker and I just received my new PC today. I've been gradually stepping it up in an attempt to hit 3GHZ+. Well, as stated in the title, I can't seem to get it to POST over 315FSB and even at 315FSB, it seems like I'm running too much voltage. But when I was running at 300FSB, it would post, but wouldn't boot into windows (windows would reboot) until I upped it to 1.375V

So currently:

9x315FSB

Memory Multi: 2.50

Mem V. +.2

Vcore 1.425

Load temps running Orthos 58*C (Stable after 11 minutes so far)

Mem test ran fine, Orthos is running fine. Any opinions?

Rig:

E4300

Gigabyte DS3 (Rev 3.3)

G.Skill DDR2 800 Ram (2x1gig)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7

GeForce 6800GS (Temporary until my 8800GTS returns from RMA)

Fortron 450W

Thermaltake Armor Extreme Edition

80Gig IDE HDD

80Gig SATA HDD

320Gig SATA HDD

Really a bit annoyed that it wont go higher. Did I just get a bad chip or what?

I've been able to get the system to remain stable in Windows at 315FSB by bumping the Vcore to 1.45, which seems excessive. After updating the BIOS and resetting everything in it, it still will not POST above 320FSB. No matter what I do, it just refuses to POST. 1GHZ is a good OC, but I was really hoping for minimum 3GHZ with this system and really hoping for 3.2. If I'm stuck at 2.8, it's rather disappointing, but I suppose I can live with it.

Thanks.

Edit: Should I be paying attention to Speedfan or TAT? TAT seems a little ridiculous with it's temp readings, with Speedfan usually being 15* lower.

Edit: Would it be better to run my Ram at 630MHZ with 4-4-4-12 timings or 838mhz with 5-5-5-15 timings?

You're trying to run DDR2 800 at 630mhz or 838mhz? Are you insane? DDR2 800's stock speed is 400mhz (x2 since it's DDR). I assume you doubled the number and really mean 315mhz @ 4-4-4-12 and 419mhz @ 5-5-5-15. That answer to that is obvious, as why would you want to underclock your ram? You should be able to get WAY above 419mhz, though. I'm at 460mhz without breaking a sweat.

Also, your vcore voltage is really high. I mean really, really high. 1.425v? 1.45? The stock voltage is 1.3v. Some people on this site have their voltage set that high but I would never go above 1.37v personally.

Don't be terribly surprised if you're stuck there... that's a pretty big OC already. If you want to get into the 3.2ghz+ range you should have gotten an E6600 =X

Also, SpeedFan has always been pretty reliable for me so I would say go with that.
