andrusk Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 up the vcore on your cpu and get a good fan to cool it, like a valcano 9 or something similar because upping the vcore is crucial to a stable overclock but it also makes your system run very hot, also make sure you use artic silver 3 for your thermal grease. Also if you dont have them already get some head spreaders for our memory. By following these rules i got my 2100+ to fsb174x13mult. 2260mhz, if you do it right you will have a very nice overclock. Good luck!
Shimano Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Man I'd kill for 166. do i need to unlock my 2100 to get over 149?
Trakfast11 Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 you don't need it unlocked in order to get a fsb of 166Mhz, although it does help a nice amount. being able to lower the multiplier will give you a better chance of getting the fsb frequency you want. it makes it so you don't have to worry as much about being stopped from attaining a high fsb because of a processor's core frequency limit. what motherboard do you have? depending on your motherboard, your processor may already be unlocked. Shimano Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 hey. It's an a7v8x and lately when I fly and only clock up to 280 it heats up to 60c, according to Sandra. Asus probe reads 43c. About multipliers, moving it up or down only resets the speed to 1733, stock. so at 13.0 the highest i can play is 2x146, sometimes. sometimes it freezes at that , 2x140 seems pretty stable. This looks like nothing if everybody else is really clocking to 2200 2400 up>>. If i go over 1900 it gets tricky. system: A7V8X MB Corsair 3200 512 2,2,2,6,1t 7200rpm maxtor amd 2100 palamino nvidia gforce 4 mx440 8x volcano 9 lots of fans Mobo stays cool I'm no expert at all, but this looks like some _ _ _ _ numbers. Course I really don't think I know what I'm doing. any ideas will be appreciated.

What voltage are you running at a 166 fsb? This is my 1st attempt at overclocking so I'm basicly clueless. When I switched the fsb to 166 in the bios I got exactly the results you listed, frozen computer. I'm pretty sure I need more voltage but I have NO clue how much. Thanks for your suggestions. Cheers, Shawn
