L4g Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Hey OCC I am looking at getting a sound card for my Asus m2n-sli deluxe (nforce 570sli), and I have my eye on the x-fi fatal1ty xtremegamer. It does seem rather expensive though, and I was wondering what the cheapest card (doesn't have to b a x-fi) I could get away with (not gonna hotrod a cheap xfi though) in order to take load off my processor, and take more advantage of my Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers, (they are very high quality IMO, though I am sure that some of you audiophiles are gonna laugh at me for saying that), and allow me to record streaming music (I have an older version of this mobo, it has the craptacular soundmax codec and stereo out for me is just static <_< ). Thanks in advance! -l4g
Verran Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I generally think Fatal1ty products are a waste of money. If I were you, I'd just get the regular XtremeGamer card. That should be more than enough for a good 2.1 setup.
suchuwato Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Don't get Fatal1ty stuff, it's pointless.

L4g Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 My only concern with the xtremegamer is that it specifies you need a 1.0ghz processor, does that mean that it does not process sound onboard? thanks occ! -l4g
p4blo32 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Nah that'll just be Creative's 'recommendation'. All sound processing will be done on the sound card.
Bosco Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I have the Fatal1ty Gamer card its a nice card and it sounds great it was a huge step up from my plain Audigy 4. I have not tried the normal gamer card but I doubt there is a difference in sound.

L4g Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Well I would prefer something under 100 dollars, and according to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829102006, the standard xtremegamer doesn't have x-ram...btw anything under 75 dollars (like that xtremegamer ) would b extra brownie points! -l4g
Systemlord Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 The 'gamer' X-Fi cards have that on-board memory to aid with the gaming FPS But the game has to support it, the X-RAM by itself won't do anything if there's no support.
