Mike842 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I bought a Thermaltake Elite 331 case a few weeks ago, there was a constant loud fan in the case. I thought it would of been the cpu hsf or even teh case fan... turns out its the psu fan running constantly high at a very high level. any ideas? Arkadiy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Can't say I'm surprised. My thermeltake came with a fan controller for it, I have it on the lowest possible 24.7 because if I turn it to the highest that 1 fan is louder than the rest of my entire computer
jammin Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Er.. don't you mean Coolermaster Elite 331? Anyway, did the PSU come with the case? (I'll assume it did as you say you bought the case) If your PSU fan is noisy you have 2 options. 1 - Replace the fan inside the PSU (not recommended unless you know what you're doing and aren't worried about voiding warranties) 2 - Get a new PSU

jammin Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) A quick trip to the Recommended Power Supplies List brings up a few possibilities. It's actually harder to buy decent lower rated PSUs than it used to be. But here are 3 options that should all be pretty quiet. Seasonic S12 330W - $60 Antec Earthwatts 380W - $60 FSP Green PS 300W - $32 I suspect you'll probably like the FSP as it's the cheapest but the Seasonic is probably the quietest and best built. The Antec is pretty good too and provides a bit more power if you may need it. Nothing wrong with the FSP though Of course you might be able to shop around on prices, but I think newegg is the only US retailer that carries the FSP.
