New rig, any suggestions?

I've been doing a bit of research, and I think I've finally come up with a good build idea. This machine will be for gaming, some hardcore programming (multiple IDE's open at once), watching movies, listening to music and doing schoolwork, mostly at the same time  I will be doing some overclocking, given the rumors I've heard about Conroe. Here's what I've scraped together with my meager Intel salary:

Mobo: $129.99

Gigabyte DS3

Case: $129.99 - $30 MIR

Antec P180

RAM: $112.99

GSkill 2x1gb, 800mgz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231087

CPU cooler: $64.99

Tuniq Tower

HD: 2x in RAID 0, $319.98

WD Raptor, 76 gig

Video Card: $529.99

PNY 8800GTX

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814133194

PSU: $159.99

Seasonic 600W S12

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817151028

CPU: $170ish (50% employee discount) :D

Core 2 E6600

Total $$$

1617.91

I'm trying to make this machine as silent as possible, if I can get a little overclock out of the proc, so much the better. I realize that these two goals are kind of mutually exclusive, hence why I want to try it, just to see if I can make it work. Any suggestions towards either of these ends would be greatly appreciated. If a part isn't listed on here (Big HD, optical drives) I already have ones that work just fine. Also, would you reccommend getting a soundcard if you listen to music a lot, if so, which one? I'm afraid soundcards aren't quite my area of expertise.

Finally, I'm trying to keep this build under $2,000 USD because I still have college to pay for in the fall.

Thanks in advance, I'm gonna go watch a movie :)

That's the same case I'm thinking about getting for my new rig. It sounds really promising. Let me know how that tuniq works out in that case, that thing looks huge!!

Also, if you sprang for a little more on the mobo you could get an SLI mobo and get two GTS's that will outperform that one GTX for the less that than one GTX would cost you. Just another option :)

@chavalcito/road runner - sounds good I'll go with that RAM instead if it'll give me a little more headroom on the CPU. Here's a revised list:

EVGA 680i SLI,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188019

And maybe a pair of these:

EVGA 8800gts,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130082

Along with that GSkill HZ,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231065

As far as SLI mobos go, there are several EVGA boards that all seem to be similar except the price, like these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....SubCategory=280

The top two or three are all very similar (except for the price) and the chipset (680i vs 680i LT). Is there any significant difference in features between the two?

Thanks again for your help.

The LT supports the new CPU's out of the box that run at 1333mhz and from what I have heard the EVGA LT mops the floor in overclocking vs the 680i. Most of the 680i's support the newer cpu's so not to worry about that.

From what NewEgg specs on those MB say the LT does not support the higher FSB CPUs?

After reading it looks like some are going to and some are not which is really dumb <_>

The only one I can see right now that has that from newegg is

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813141002

ccokeman is doing an LT right now from a different manufacturer so he may be able to tell us if there is another one that will do that.

that looks like a great rig! Both the DS3 and the 680i are known good boards for overclocking and both are a pretty good bang for your buck! If I were you, I'd go for a single 8800GTX, because then you could just pop in another one sometime down the road (if you should need it anytime soon ).

Manufacturers websites!? BLASPHEMY...

/endsarcasm

That's funny that Newegg would get specs wrong like that, they're extremely popular (with good reason) with just about everyone I know that builds computers. One would think an error like that would be one of the first to get corrected. I'll definitely go check out the EVGA website and see what those specs actually are.
