TypicalSloan Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 I mentioned to my brother the other day about getting this stuff to put in my water setup and he told me not waste my money and just get a higlighter of whatever color and let it soak in the water. He said in college he used to use it in alcohol bottles for decoration and it work good and lasted a long time. Has anyone tried this? General912 Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 No but I would just get the dye because IT GLOWS! when under uv light!
TiKiGoD Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 So does highliter ink lol.... I dunno I've never tried, personally I've found that most highliters are reasonably waterproof, and you would need quite a few to get enough ink to make your whole setup UV reactive. I imagine it would be cheaper to buy the dye, and easier too. I dunno what's in high-liter ink, but it might be corrosive, and it would certainly make your tubing yellow or whatever color you were gonna use. TypicalSloan Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 it wouldnt be cheap if u had to use 5-6, guessing,to get the necessary die, plus like tikigod said it might be corrosive, which could cause damage to ur system. it was just an idea. justinal Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 i dont know if its corods(?) your stuff but sounds like a good idea i dont see why it would corode anything but im not sure
fUj Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 any dye will end up dyin yout waterlines ... you hafta flush it out every few days with fresh water to prevent it ... other wise if you have clear lines they're be the clolr of the highlighter or dye .. -Ricky
RVE Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 What about food coloring? Add a few drops here and there until you get the desired effect? You can even mix and match colors to create new ones. Mixing up red and yellow to make orange water in your cooling system! It wouldn't glow like a UV dye would, but I'd give it a shot if I had a water cooling setup. Now since it's safe to eat, I don't think food coloring would be harmful for your setup now would it?
Ghost2520 Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Well food coloring is a dye, so it might permanently die you tubes that color if run to long... just a thought though.

wenis Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Well, here's what im thinkin. if you want something that won't corrode or murder your water lines, dont use dye at all. get some uv tubing. i've seen it somewhere, but i don't remember where. it might not be all that cheap, but at least you'll still have a computer later on And why go cheap if you want something quality made, know what i mean? like those crap Pc Toys CCFLS! AHH see my post about them hehe.
RVE Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Well just put some of that Water-Wetter. I think it's a red color, so you should be able to see that. Not sure if that'll stain the lines or not. I wouldn't think so but you never know.
