the bible is a historical book. whether you believe in the religion portion of it or not, it is still a historically accurate book.

Historically accurate? Where'd you get that little gem? We've got heaps of evidence proving that entire sections were either exaggerated truths or just good ol' fabrications. I've taken several religion courses, one of which specifically dealt with the Old Testament. Sure, some of it has real historical parallels, but there were several stories that were nowhere near the truth.

Like jammin said, if you want to take some moral lessons out of the Bible, that's great, but to call it 100% historically accurate, you're just delusional.

Dear Concerned Student:

I am not allowed in schools.

Sincerely,

God

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see,

I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained

she didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK..

Don't stop to think that people that follow other religions might be offended!

-I was trying to say that people who practice religions where there is no prayer, or the lack thereof, might be offended by people praying in front of them, or a class prayer.

------------------

Then,

someone said you better not read the Bible in school,

the Bible that says

"thou shalt not kill,

thou shalt not steal,

and love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

Maybe people of other religions don't want to be forced to read the bibile, because they don't believe in it!

-I was trying to say that people who practice religions other than Christian ones don't want to read a religious book in school. Or feel pressured if every other kid in school does.

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said

we shouldn't spank our children

when they misbehaved

because their little personalities

would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,

an expert should know what he's talking about

so we won't spank them anymore..

Parenting decision, people make themselves. Hardly a law. Unless you want to physically abuse your children, which can severly damage them mentally and physically...(I was spanked as a child, I'm fine, though.)

-I was saying that spanking a child is a parental decision, and that it is not illegal. The glurge doesn't make sense here.

------------------

Then someone said

teachers and principals better not

discipline our children when they misbehave.

And the school administrators said

no faculty member in this school

better touch a student when they misbehave

because we don't want any bad publicity,

and we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

Parenting is a parents responsibility, not a schools. My mother was a teacher, and she did not want to parent kids like that, it wasn't her job.

-Schools have no right to physically discipline children like the glurge is suggesting, and most teachers don't want to, there job is to teach, not keep children under control.

------------------

Then someone said,

let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,

and they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea...

Because letting embarrassed, scared girls and women have control of their bodies is a horrible idea!

-People should have control over their bodies, and their bodies are just that, their bodies. No one has a right to know what they do with their bodies, unless they are endangering themselves.

------------------

Then some wise school board member said,

since boys will be boys

and they're going to do it anyway,

let's give our sons all the condoms they want,

so they can have all the fun they desire,

and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

So let's just spread STD's, and cause more unwanted pregnancies, that will solve all of our problems!

-Lack of condoms isn't going to lead to a lack of ., just more STD's and unwanted pregnancies.

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said

it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said,

it doesn't matter what anybody,

including the President,

does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

I suppose this is saying homosexual people shouldn't be allowed to have jobs? Personal lives should always be separate from business lives...

-Peoples personal lives should never be considered when hiring or firing, unless they would be in such a position to screw over the employer.

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further

and published pictures of nude children

and then stepped further still by

making them available on the Internet.

And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

Child pornography is child abuse and has been illegal since the 70's. However, art is art, and some art features people under the age of 18. Nice to know that whomever wrote this wants to supress free speech for a reason that is illegal and carries high penalties! Then again, they want to allow child abuse.

-This part of the glurge makes no sense. Child pornography isn't protected under free speech. However, art is, and sometimes art features nude minors, but it's not for sexual enjoyment. Art isn't porn.

------------------

And the entertainment industry said,

let's make TV shows and movies that promote

profanity, violence and illicit ....

And let's record music that encourages

rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said,

it's just entertainment

and it has no adverse effect

and nobody takes it seriously anyway,

so go right ahead.

Studies have shown that violent media has almost no effect on the mentally sane. Yay, more bull* propaganda!

-There is no link between violent or offensive media and behavior, because people mentally mature enough to watch or interact with such media can understand that they're not reality, unless they are influenced by drugs or a mental disorder.

------------------

Now we're asking ourselves

why our children have no conscience,

why they don't know right from wrong,

and why it doesn't bother them to

kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

It couldn't be bad parenting, or mental disorders, no! Trying to pass the buck, eh?

-The glurge is trying to pass the blame for bad parenting or mental disorders to the above listed in the glurge.

------------------

Undoubtedly,

if we thought about it long and hard enough,

we could figure it out.

I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"

------------------

Pass it on

if you think it has merit!

If not then just discard it...

but if you discard this thought process,

then don't you dare sit back and complain about

what bad shape this country is in

In God We Trust

or should I say...we should trust.

This is just glurge bull*. Seriously, who wrote something this closed-minded, and dumb?

-The glurge is incorrect, and closed-minded.

Attempted to make my arguments more coherant. Not trying to start a flame war, just stating my opinions, and how...closed-minded and wrong this glurge really is. Sorry, I've lost TWO dogs (one was 15, the other 3 and a half), so I'm not in the best thought-making mode right now.

I agree with the religion part, like I saw on the news a few weeks ago where a muslim prayer call thing was played on the speakers at the house or some political place. I about puked when I heard that. They are taking over everything now, why should we have to listen to that BS.

My thought exactly, I was like "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!?"

I'm not sure how many times I've said this on OCC (probably a couple dozen), but the Bible is the best selling fiction book of all time...

I actually found this part funny...

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see,

I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained

she didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK..

I believe people should be allowed to pray as long as they don't preach and do it in their head, or under their breath.

------------------

Then,

someone said you better not read the Bible in school,

the Bible that says

"thou shalt not kill,

thou shalt not steal,

and love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

Same as above. If I want to read the Bible in between classes I should be allowed to as long as I don't preach...I think the law says that you are allowed to do this though.

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said

we shouldn't spank our children

when they misbehaved

because their little personalities

would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,

an expert should know what he's talking about

so we won't spank them anymore..

I don't like the idea of spanking not because it might damage a kid but because most kids don't need to be. Yea, some kids need to be physically punished but I know many many times when I all I needed was my mom to tell me WHY what I did was wrong...not just that it was wrong. If you explain why you want your children to do something rather than telling them: because I say so...then not only will you gain their respect but they will do what you ask because they understand why they need to do it.

------------------

Then someone said

teachers and principals better not

discipline our children when they misbehave.

And the school administrators said

no faculty member in this school

better touch a student when they misbehave

because we don't want any bad publicity,

and we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

If ANYONE else ever tried to discipline my children then there would be 1 less person on this planet. It is never anyone else's job to discipline my children.

------------------

Then someone said,

let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,

and they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea...

There are many cases in which a kid could be abused or "abandoned" by their parents because they got pregnant. I know some parents that would kick their children out into the street if they knew they were pregnant. I think that when a child is mature enough, then they should be able to have an abortion without parental consent...but I think an exam by a licensed doctor should determine when the girl is old enough to make the decision.

------------------

Then some wise school board member said,

since boys will be boys

and they're going to do it anyway,

let's give our sons all the condoms they want,

so they can have all the fun they desire,

and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

The younger generation is always going to have . with or without free condoms...all not giving them condoms is going to do is make more pregnant young girls and more STD infections.

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said

it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said,

it doesn't matter what anybody,

including the President,

does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

As with most other people...your private life is private and no one else's business.

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further

and published pictures of nude children

and then stepped further still by

making them available on the Internet.

And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

Not sure what this about but it would seem from the other posts that there are pictures of minors being displayed that are for art purposes. If this is so then I see no problem with it as long as they are tasteful, have parent's and the child's consent, and are displayed only to people who are there to appreciate the artistic value, not the nudity.

------------------

And the entertainment industry said,

let's make TV shows and movies that promote

profanity, violence and illicit ....

And let's record music that encourages

rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said,

it's just entertainment

and it has no adverse effect

and nobody takes it seriously anyway,

so go right ahead.

Violent television shows, games, and music does not affect anyone, unless the person already has problems. Period. Research has been done on this and you can go look it up yourself.

------------------

Now we're asking ourselves

why our children have no conscience,

why they don't know right from wrong,

and why it doesn't bother them to

kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

Trying to blame bad children on anything but the parents is the flaw here. Bad children are the parent's fault and no one else...

------------------

Undoubtedly,

if we thought about it long and hard enough,

we could figure it out.

I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"

------------------

Pass it on

if you think it has merit!

If not then just discard it...

but if you discard this thought process,

then don't you dare sit back and complain about

what bad shape this country is in

In God We Trust

or should I say...we should trust.

Before you flame me...I am a Christian and I used to go to church every Sunday until I was 19 and moved to Orlando to go to school. I also consider myself a Republican...more like liberal with people, conservation with government and money.

MEH, guess thats why they call it faith...

Hey, if you want to believe in the Bible, that's your prerogative. But don't go around spouting nonsense like it's a historically accurate book. That's not called faith, that's spreading lies and untruths.
