OCManiac Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) I just recently purchased a athlon xp-m 2500+ as an upgrade and I have also heard that they are massive overclockers well it works but it reads the cpu speed as 600mhz when it should be 1.8ghz. CPUZ says it has a multiplier of 6 and fsb of 100. I set the fsb to 133 in bios but that did not fix it. Here is the link to the processor I got. cpu world Any ideas how to fix it? Andrewr05 Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) It clocks the processor down depending on how much you are using it, if you are taking these readings in the bios or at idle then it will show the CPU speed lower, at least I think the Athlons do... Good for laptops running on a battery, but kind of pointless on a desktop.. Edited April 21, 2007 by Andrewr05
OCManiac Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I don't think that they featured that back then it should run at full speed all the time.
Andrewr05 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I don't think that they featured that back then it should run at full speed all the time.I did some minor research and some XP-m's have Power Now! technology...
GlimmerMan Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Power Now! is used for laptops. Turn it off, and you'll be as good as gold.
OCManiac Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 how do you turn it off. I tried what microsoft said but I am missing one of the folders I need to edit.
kingdingeling Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 you don't need to edit any folders, you only need to go to your control panel, then go to energy options and change it to desktop, or maximum power or whatever the option is. That should do it.
OCManiac Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I just tried every power option with a reboot and nothing changed
Dr_Frankenstein Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 He is using this in a desktop board so not likely that powernow is even on anyway, have you got your latest bios? Bios
markiemrboo Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 From what I remember this is totally normal for putting a mobile chip in a desktop board. Assuming you have PC3200 RAM, I would set the multiplier to 9x and the FSB to 200MHz to start with. This should give 1.8GHz. OCManiac Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The problem is is that I can only adjust the fsb and no multipliers.
markiemrboo Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The problem is is that I can only adjust the fsb and no multipliers. I would suggest consulting the motherboard's manual to see if it has any mention of adjusting the multiplier. You've probably got a hard copy, but if not it should be on the manufacturers website. I usually google 'manufacturer model manual download', i.e 'abit nf7-s manual download'. If there's no mention of it there, then I guess it might be time to invest in a different board. There might also be a chance that someone has a 'hacked BIOS' to allow you to change the multiplier, but I wouldn't count on that
