hey guys, sorry for the umm strong title to this post but im in dire need of help with this one.. i've built two computers, one for my brother, and one for a friend, spaced out a few months between the two, and they are both having the same problem. They both crash while playing certain games, including world of warcraft, company of heroes, rome: total war, and im sure many other games. I cant figure out what the problem could possibly be, i've used old drivers, new drivers, reflashed the bios on both and still no luck, i've even used my video card. the one thing they both have in common is the motherboard, its a KN8 Ultra, which i have in my own computer too and have never had a problem, ever.

the specs for the two computers:

comp1:

abit KN8 ultra

amd athlon 64 4000+

XFX 7900GT

sata seagate barr. 200gb

not sure about ram.. think its corsair valueselect 512x2

comp2:

abit KN8 ultra

amd athlon 64 X2 3800+

(company.. not sure) 7600gs

sata seagate barr. 200gb

not sure about ram.. 1gb

i know im missing parts of that but im pretty sure the video cards itself arent the problem since i told you ive switched them out and had the same problem

if anybody at all can help, i'd appreciate it so very much, this has had me stumped for days!!!!

Where to begin.

Hmmm.

I notice you have an Aspire PSU, get a DMM and check the Rails. What is the PSU in other comp?

Google and download memtest86+, burn it to disk, run on each computer for a 4 hours at the minimum. Report amount of Errors.

Google hard Drive Health (HDD), install it, and post a screen shot of the SMART Page.

Download Speedfan and list the temps after comming out of a game, or while idle.

What Anti Virus are you both running? Anti Spyware? Firewall? Is Windows Updated?

I'm thinking PSU also, you not listing the PSU is probably because it not worth mentioning, which means it most likely a POS offbrand PSU that for all we know could be underpowered along with just plain crappy... ;):P

note that its not the computer in my sig lol

well one is generic.. but the one with the 4000+ has a 440w antec truepower...........

as for memtest.. hadnt done 4 hours.. i did let it run for about 2 though on one of them, i guess i should probably try that one again for one thing..

as for the temps, i know that the systems both run cool, processor is always under 40c and vid cards are always under 60c

one is running norton corporate and one is running norton systemworks
