Psywar Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 WRONG!!! lol.. turning ur computer on and off causes alot of stress on your machine.. Once in a while it is a good idea to reboot if ur system seems a tad bit sluggish.. its bound to happen after a few months of being on 24 /7 As for it eating up ur memory being on.. no.. my memory usage never goes up at all.. I have the same stuff open week after week.. stays the same.. Gives hackers a better chance of getting in to ur system? If a hacker really wanted in ur system.. I dont care if ur bill gates.. and u restart every 5 mins.. the hacker WILL get in.. theres away around every kind of protection.. nothing will ever be secure on the net.. Plus if ur on dial up.. ur IP may change but if someone wants you.. as soon as u login somewhere he will see u.. and bl00p.. ur gone.. 2nd off if ur on highspeed.. ur ip normally doesnt change.. so he could sit there and just wait and wait till you came on and then blllaaam.. I never turn this thing off.. once and a while to reboot after I ran updates or install a new game.. stuff like that.. other then that this thing is on 24/7.. as of now 4 days 3hrs and 32mins.. i restarted 4 days agao when I installed an MS update to dx9a.. But thats my story and im sticking to it! ---- Oh yeah and if ur afraid of dust buy a freeking mesh filter..

andrusk Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 the only reason i turn my computer off at night is because i cant sleep with 6 case fans and a volcano 9 screaming in my ear! Other than that i leave it on all the time, especially when im not home, that way i can run seti or f@h!!
smeghead009 Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 i never turn mine off unless it freeze up or i need to reboot for something, besides that bright blue glow and thw "white noise" from the fans helps me sleep

Tony_Toughnuts Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 He probably has a xp on a atari or some other shiddy computer where you actually can feel this. With the power and capabilities in computers today especially us it doesnt even matter.

Click Start, then Run and type in Systeminfo.. it will be in there.... If The systeminfo command doesn't work in the home edition of XP. In the run box type "msinfo32" select Components | Network | Adapter. Then find the item: last reset.
