Saiith Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Intended for gaming... I was hoping to pay ~1k and ended up at 1250$ after shipping/rebates. I have headphones/mic/monitor from old system, but I still might be forgetting something (so let me know if you notice a critical component missing heh). Anyways looking for whatever input you guys have... Nemo Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Are you planning to go with the stock HSF? Otherwise you'll need to add one to your list.
Saiith Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Are you planning to go with the stock HSF? Otherwise you'll need to add one to your list. Right, I was holding off on the cooling system for some advice, but maybe this Tuniq: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835154001
Verran Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 The Tuniq is a very popular choice, and seems to be with good reason. I think your build is very solid. I'm not a huge fan of the ram and psu choices, but with those big rebates, I think they're probably worth it. The only thing I'd change is the motherboard. I'm starting to feel like a broken record, but I think you should look into the Gigabyte 965p boards (S3/DS3) if you don't need SLI. Other than that, I'd recommend holding off for a few weeks if you can. There's supposed to be price cuts coming from Intel in late April (22nd IIRC). If the rumors are true, you'll be able to jump to the 6600 for the price you're currently looking at for the 6400, and that'd be a nice performance jump. I switched motherboards, I guess I have one more question. Given these specs, is the Tuniq necessary? Let's say I don't plan on OC'ing at all... how much cooling do I really need? oldfett Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 If your not overclocking and the room the computer is in isn't hot as hell you don't need an aftermarket cooler. Just run with the stock one.
road-runner Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 (edited) If your not OCing at all the stock cooler is all you need. You can over clock it on stock volts as far as it will go with stock cooling, when you start raising the vcore is when it starts making more heat needing better cooling. hardnrg Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 if you're not overclocking a C2D, you need a kick in the sack! sacrilege i tell ya, sacrilege...
Makaveli Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 I don't think you really need the Raptor...10k drives only make your computer slightly faster and I mean SLIGHTLY faster. I've used 10k drives and sure they seem a little faster, but if you're THAT impatient to wait a few split seconds (or seconds) more than get one. Plus, 250GB & 320GB hard drives are under 100 bucks on Newegg now adays. Personally, I'd put in a little extra cash to get the E6600's 4MB cache instead of the E6400's 2MB cache. GlimmerMan Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Overclock your C2D rig or your wasting it. So much potential! And cooler wise. Buy the IFX-14 (googlt it) when they come out. It's sure to be a winner.
