I am not a Star Wars geek or whatever so I was wondering how many are there? And in what order are you supposed to watch them? I've seen like 1 of them before and want to know why so many people like it :P
:O SHAME ON YOU!

You are officially BANNED from OCC until you watch all 6 StarWars movies!!!

Seriously...

Don't come back until you have watched every single one of them.

Jedi... what the heck? Two words? Four characters and a space? SPAM! :P

But wow... I watched 4-6 when I was like 10 years old, and absolutely loved each one. Watch those first, they help to give you an idea of things better. 1-3... just suck. Lines in 3 were just blah.

Anyway. Watch 4-6. They are simply awesome. Then 1-3, with barf and sleeping bags ready for puking and getting bored to the point of sleeping Episodes 2 and 3 out.

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan. But there is one thing I have learned. George Lucas is a BAD writer. Or I should say, has BECOME a bad writer. The first three movies were amazing, then Lucas went crazy and wrote episodes 1-3. The latest trilogy lacks proper character development, only a superficial use of the Force, and VERY bad lines, which is sad because many of the actors are top notch.

I much rather enjoy the non-Lucas written material. The books, the comics, and the video games make Star Wars an AMAZING genre. Authors like Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole are just superb. The material is expanded upon so much and in such a great way that Lucas' attempts look pathetic. There was great potential for Episodes 1-3. The stories could have been amazing. But then the moron Lucas went ahead and pissed on such great opportunities just so that he could dazzle us with special effects. He has failed to realize that it isn't visual effects that make a great movie, but rather storyline and acting. Just look at Episodes 4-6. Great story telling compensated for the fact that visual effects were limited by the technology of that time period. Plus, special effects aren't "special" when they're in every scene... <_>

I'm just glad George Lucas won't be doing the writing for the slated Star Wars TV show :)

I haven't read any of the SW books, but I know my friends would agree with you. As for Lucas "becoming" a bad writer...I don't think he was ever that good. There are several cheesy and poor lines in 4-6. I think people just don't notice it as much because 1) all the characters are likeable (no jar jar or child anakin), and 2) people don't want to think anything bad about 4-6...it'd be like forsaking America or something. lol.

4-6 are better than 1-2, but I like 3 the best, for several reasons. For one, after 1-2 I didn't think Lucas could recover, and I thnk he went well beyond people's expectations. I thought the gap between 2 and 4 was too large, but to my surprise Lucas was able to tie everything together perfectly. I also thought watching the fall of Anakin (or rise of Vader...whichever way you want to look at it) was well done. If there was one thing I didn't like it was when you-know-who dies...but I knew that was coming, so I prepared myself ;) lol. Anywho, I don't think it's any question that 1-3 are visually the better of the six, so when Lucas finally provided a good story (in E3), that's what pushed it to the top for me.

I think that's true to a certain extent. In general, I'd still have to say that 4-6 are MUCH MUCH MUCH better written than 1-3. Admittedly, the two sets are very different "styles" of movies. That's one of the main reasons Lucas claims to have done them out of order. 1-3 is, in a lot of senses, just a cheesey love story. He said it himself.

On top of that, a lot of the lines in 4-6 would be considered very cheesey by todays standards, but they weren't back then. They made the standard for cliche. So if you saw them first in the 80's, then you don't remember them being cheesey. But if someone saw them for the first time now, they'd think they had always been cliche. If that makes any sense. So to a certain extent his writing hasn't changed, but the standards have.

For me though, I'd gladly take a side of cheese with 4-6 than sit through the TERRIBLE writing in 1-3. Natalie is a perfect example. Apart from being very hot, she really is a great actress. Her other films speak volumes for that. But if all you knew were 1-3, you'd think she was the worst ever. It's just horrible writing. It's one step away from having the characters stare at the camera for 2 hours and tell us literally how they feel.

I will say though that 1-3 still have some GREAT scenes that make them worth watching. The sabre battle at the end of #1 is downright awesome, for example.
