North Bridge Hsf

Recommended Posts

i was thinking that since the north bridge heatsink has no fan on it that putting one on would decrease temps and maybe give a more stable oc. What do think, yes but a 40mm on it/no dont bother the heatsink is good enough? also has anyone removed it to apply as3 to it?

from what ive heard the heatsink on the north bridge is only cooled by a thermal pad, Replacing it with as3 would probably be a better idea, the only problem i think would be getting the heatsink to get contact with the north bridge once the pad is removed since it wont be so low, you might have to grind a little to get it to drop. and also i would say go forth the little fan with a heatsink on there, that would probably help if your overclocking your machine, definitly should make it cooler.

im definetly getting the fan. As for the heatsink i think what u mean by not contacting the chip is that the pins that hold it down now wont hold it down enough once the pad is off. Maybe i can change those out for nuts and bolts with nylon washers for insulation. Just dont want to screw up my brand new board.

just a little warning... the Crystal Orb fan is a little on the loud side. I orignally bought the fan to put on the northbridge of my a7n8x, but after hearing how loud and how powerful it was, i quickly changed my mind and used it for cooling my gf2 ultra card. That fan is very good at reducing temps, much better than my stock fan on my gf2 ultra. I'm not sure if it if necessary to have that much cooling power on the northbridge, but if you don't mind the extra sound it gives off and are just looking for a powerful fan, it can't get much better than this.
