Why I fold

Recommended Posts

Four weeks ago I was sitting in an Atlanta hotel lobby with a good friend and business partner when he started to complain about a pain in his upper abdomen....this morning I received a call and was told that my friend had died in his sleep....his body ravaged by a cancer that he was powerless to control. This is why I fold....this is why I will fold till either h#ll freezes over or until cures are found for these diseases. :(

The worst part is how helpless you feel....I knew his condition was getting worse....I could hear it in his voice....four weeks!, four god @#mn weeks!!!.... and he was dead.

One of my employees children lost a battle with leukemia after less than 6months. She was 2 years old and the apple of her fathers eye. Thats why i still continue to fold. Its bad enough that this disease is killing people but when it kills the little ones thats what hurts.

My cousin died of lymphatic cancer 3 months ago after battling it for a year and a very good friend has been going through chemo to fight the same disease.

I have a genetic visual impairment called gross nystagmus and ambliopya that affects myself, my brother and 2 cousins, one of which was the one who died of cancer.

However, I do not fold for the dead...I fold for the living :foldon:

just that! I have a friend who has morbuschron (spelling, is it even called that in english?), a chronic stomach disease that does not kill, but seriously limits him in his activities, as he spends most of the day on the toilet. Also a reason why I believe folding is a good thing!

Guys, I am sorry for your loss. Amen to the comment about folding for those living w/ cancer. This is a topic that is NEAR and DEAR to me.

My mom - 2 cases of breast cancer, remission for 15 years, cancer is back ...

My aunt - 2 cases of cancer, breast and thyroid, remissions 12 years ...

My "auntie" - breast cancer, remission 12 years ...

My grandmother - died of brain tumor @ 60 ...

My college academic adviser - son died @ 18 after battling leukemia for 3 years ...

My HS Senior Prom Date - battled bone cancer for 4 years @ 14, had a lung transplant due to chemo, and healthy and a happy mom of 2!

My neighbors infant daughter - born with tumor, chemo @ 6 mos, is the happiest 5 year old you'll ever meet!

This is why I fold, this is why I ride the Pan-Mass Challenge (100 mile 1-day ride), this is why I donate to every Cancer fund raiser anyone can get my name on.

Every ounce of effort helps!

Let's beat it!

A good friend of mine (and my girlfriend) was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. After a couple of treatments that kicked his butt, the doctors said the cancer was gone. A very short time later, he developed a hernia. While on a plane trip to Denver, he collapsed. Being the stubborn guy that he is, he insisted on flying back home (to Toledo) instead of having emergency surgery in Colorado. Two surgerys later that issue was dealt with. He's been doing ok for quite a few months now, until about a week ago. He ended up getting two blood transfusions over three days due to a bleeding ulcer, and now, there is a VERY good chance that his cancer is back (he has to go in to get the results, they won't tell him over the phone). Needless to say, he and his wife are NOT doing well right now. So, I really don't care if people say we're fighting a losing battle. I WILL FOLD!
