Unstable Internet

I seem to be having a problem. I've always had this problem living here.

My internet connection is horribly unstable. I have a D-LINK WBR-1310 router. I run on a 12mbps cable connection.

The internet is always fast, but it gets "hiccups" which can d/c me out of teamspeak/ventrilo servers, or stop downloads. I have opened all my ports, hell I've even entered DMZ mode, with no luck.

The router has a gaming mode which is always on, I think that helps in games, because when I'm in a multiplayer game, downloads or ventrilo never d/c. I have tried different networking drivers for my wireless d-link pci card. which is a GW something.

I was wondering if I could get any help, maybe theres a program out there I dont know that can monitor this or something.

The router is about 10 feet away, through 1 thin wall. (even have the antennae pointed at my pc)

Thanks guys.

Could be the router, I've found the 1310's to be a bit dodgey. If you have the option, try something like a Linksys WRT54G and see if it helps.

Defenatly dont go with the Linksys WRT54G either. That router has its own set of problems.

I'd go with a new d-link.

When I worked for Nintendo handling Wii connectivity problems 90% of the time it was a WRT54G. Buying a new router is out of the question at the moment, though I think I'll buy a new D-Link soon as I can afford one.

I just spent the last 2 hours downloading something, and its stuck at 72%, to try and fix it I paused it, and resumed it with the hope it may start again but no luck :(

Do you get these hiccups only while connected to your router, or do you get them when wired directly to the modem? I'd look into that if you haven't already. I was experiencing this for a few months last summer, thinking it was my router. Turns out some drunk guy had gone out one night and hacked the cable trunk line with an axe and no one knew it. There was moisture getting down into the cable trunk line and shorting out all the connections in the area for a few seconds at a time. I'm not trying to say some drunkard took a hatchet to your intarnets, but it could possibly be an outside problem you are experiencing.
