matty_hans Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Just after some friendly advise after deciding to upgrade my pc. i have been looking at 2 similar graphics cards; the Geforce 7600gs 512mb DDR2 and the Geforce 7600gt 256mb DDR3. Is it neccessary to have a card with 512mb or could i get away with 256mb keeping in mind that in the near future i will get a second card to link with SLI. Im not sure which one would be the best as they both have their good pionts. If anyone could shed some light on which would be the better perfomace card, it would be appreciated. thanks. Ziggy54354 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 get the GT, the problem with memory for a midrange card you probably wont be using high AA settings or super high res so the extra memory will probably not help you. The extra core and memory clocks will always give you better performance in this case
matty_hans Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 cool so when i do come to putting in another gt of the same spec this will be a great boost yeah?
Ziggy54354 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 i wouldn't say great... i personally think SLI is a waste of money in most cases because a) you are sli-ing two high-end cards and spending about 1k on graphics and most people really do not need that b) you are buying two cards in a short time interval but you could have gotten 1 better card for a cheaper price c) you are buying two cards in a long time interval and now your card is obsolete and even if you do sli, it still isn't up to par with the new cards out there. Since you look like situation b i would suggest u get a 7900GS

Comp Dude2 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 A friend of mine has a Palit 7900GS and finds the dual slot cooler is great for overclocking
mark106 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 cool. alright well i'll check out some prices on them. is there much difference in performance betweeen the 7600gt and the 7900gs? i'm not really sure about performance but i do know that the 7900GS is better then the 7600GT heres a pny verto 7900GS specs ( not sure if it helps anything lol) 256mb GDDR3 vid ram memory clock speed 1.32ghz ramdac clock speed 400mhz max res 2560x1600 can run most current games with acceptable res and image quailty
fire_storm Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 cool. alright well i'll check out some prices on them. is there much difference in performance betweeen the 7600gt and the 7900gs? There isn't a huge difference between the 7600GT and the 7900GS feature wise. But the 7900GS is faster then the 7600GT. The 7600GT has only 12 pixel pipelines while the 7900GS has 20. 7600GT will probably play games at a good FPS at medium settings while the 7900GS probably can go on high settings.
