Mombo Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Ok I want to get the Samsung dvd burner combo thing that is Sata off of newegg I think its running around 35'ish. If this is my only drive will it be able to do installs of an OS when I format or what since its sata. Also I am getting a new board the Gigabyte DQ6 and was wondering do I need to have a floppy drive still to install the raid drives and everything when I am doing an install? As well I am sick of having a floppy drive in my computer if I buy an external floppy drive I dont know if they are all just USB or if there are sata ones could I use that to do my install then just unplug it? I swear that board doesnt even have an floppy drive cable plug in.....
bigred Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 with intel chipsets it won't be an issue. the i8xx and i9xx series chipsets treat the SATA ports the same as ATA unless you have a raid array attached to them.

My DQ6 has a plug for a floppy drive, I actually put one in it when I built it. bigred Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 no... in non sata settings NO drivers are required on an intel chipset.
