hardnrg Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 i think you might still need RevE support else something might not work in regard to any dual core... dunno what though... i'm not one to keep the stock bios for long in favour of the best overclocking one
kingdingeling Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 am I the only one who's thinking clearly right now?????that opteron is nothing more than an athlon 64 X2 with a different name tag on it. it WILL work. only thing is your bios will do one of two things. it'll either call it the equivalent athlon 64 X2 or "unknown cpu". bios update will only let your motherboard ID it correctly. thats what I said in my first or second post <_< no need for a new board if this works... bigred Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 as long as the board is capable of supporting 90nm rev e dual core cpus... it'll work with any bios. it's a matter of the correct VRM on the board at that point. without that VRM you can flash the bios till you're blue in the face and it won't change hardware not working. later releases of that board are capable. but the first few were only capable of supporting winchester and newcastle chips EDIT: results will be: unknown CPU @ x.xxmhz X2 it WILL post, it WILL run, it WILL be stable on that revision of the board. even the original released bios will give you that much. don't worry! all you're lacking is the microdode update to give the right name of the chip.
