GuJuMaN89 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 ive got vista ultimate and i still think its not worth it. go with xp pro right now.
Verran Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I'm kinda wondering the same thing actually. It'd be interesting to see a dual-boot comparison on the same hardware (given a DX10 card and benchmark). I'm curious to see if DX10 is really as good as all the hype. ThunderChicken Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 def what GuJu said go with xp pro for now. Im also using vista ultimate, i love it but its taken a lot of tweaking to get it to use only 30% of ram at idle. It was using 500mb or around there at first install. Its a bulky os id def. recommend xp pro for now. Im about to just format with xp pro but just havnt had the time as of late. romeo55 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 It doesn't have any support, What I usually do is wait for about 6 months at LEAST before going to a new OS.
Bosco Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Gaming is so close between XP and Vista..... Drivers is what I am finding a pain with, I think we will see alot of driver upgrades in the next month or so, because to be frank the performance is just not there. I will be doing more testing and benchmarking over the next few days
Nerm Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Drivers are the biggest problem right now which is to be expected with a new OS from M$. If you are building a new rig I say go ahead and get Vista as it is the future and does have a lot of nice features. Once they get all the drivers updated and such you will hear a lot kinder words about it. If you had a current rig with XP then I wouldn't not recommend getting Vista right now, but like I said if you are building a whole new PC you might as well IMO. GuJuMaN89 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 ive found quite a bit of 3rd party drivers to make everyhting work. gaming IS THE SAME!!!!! unforgivin, it does have support, out of my 100 applications, even ones that are very scarce to find, only 2 would not work. everything else works fine. GameGuru1 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Vista isn't so hot right now, I'd give it a while before buying/installing it. We sold maybe 5 copies at work today haha. I have a free copy of Vista Ultimate just kicking around waiting to be installed... it will be a while
swifty11212 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 For me, the best solution is dual booting since Vista isn't going to have good drivers just yet and just in case certain applications won't work well under Vista. ThunderChicken Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Honestly vista has a lot of support. I mean not many programs ive found dont work all the usual ones that i use work fine. Its just the ram/cpu usage that bugs me. As im a performance guy i dont like my comp using 512mb at idle, ive remedeed that with some tweaks, so i dont need 2 gigs to run bf2 flawlessly. Drivers work fine i havnt had to use any third party drivers at all although i dont like the nvidia drivers i like the drivers from tweaks r us more. I havnt tested those im gonna try those tonight and see what happens. Otherwise i love vista, i have gone back to the classic windows theme because i like it more than the new one. for you useing vista hit windows key+tab and its a much cooler way to switch between aps instead of alt+tab.
