mavro6000 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hello all, hope everybody had a happy holidays. I been doing some research on an lcd monitor. As you can notice that I been really reading about the following lcd monitors. I play alot of Fifa 2007, Madden 2007, Battlefield 2042, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and Flight Simulator. Display means alot to me and thats why I still have my CRT. I came to a conclusion for the following monitor. If some one please shed some light for me, and let me know which one I should purchase, or suggest another model: 1. NEC MultiSync 940 GX2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824002122 2. ViewSonic VP930B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116365 3. ViewSonic VX922 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116375 4. Samsung 971P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001086 5. Samsung 931C http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001085 6. SAMSUNG 204B-BK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824001226 7. SCEPTRE X20WC-Gamer Black 20.1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824112003 8. SAMSUNG 940BX Black http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824001080 9. BenQ FP93GX Black 19 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824014111 I been reading alot of the Viewsonic VX922, and alot of people like it for games, but I am worried about the contrast ratio being 650:1 and that worries me a bit for web browsing and so forth. If anyone will please help me with my confusion. Thank you, P.S. my budget is keep it under $400. Also I don't know if I should go Wide Screen? Any light would be greatly appreciated. I been diggin up information for the past 5 months, and when I am about to make a decission some monitor catches my eyes. I am really torn here. mavro6000 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 But, when it comes to choosing a monitor, what specs for gaming should i take inconsideration. I keep hearing to keep the contrast ratio above 1000:1, then I notice that most monitors are at 800:1. How about resolution? And what is the minumal on the speed? Fireonice Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 You should concider the responce time time, but that vary's so much beucase alot of manufactures lie, so you might have company A say there monitor is 6ms when its really 16ms, then you might have respectable company B say there responce time is 5ms and it really is. Basicly the lower the responce time the better. The higher the contrast ratio the better. Resolution is all your choice as the only thing that effects is your fps in games depending on your video card, so if you have a 6600gt your not going to be able to run max resolution and max settings on lets say Oblivion. But most monitors share the same resolution specs so you can kinda throw out looking at the resolution. Then you have to concider the lcd board the monitor uses. I know that all 22incher out right now use TN boards. Now TN boards are the cheaper lcd boards out there. But on the plus side they play games with no ghosting and have low responce times and can have high contrast ratio. Now were they lack is in the viewing angle but the way i look at it is, your going to be right infront of your mointor when your on your computer. And to tell you the truth the viewing angle isnt all that bad, i watch movies from my bed all the time from a little angle. I really recomend that sceptre 22inch mointor, the step up from 20inch ws is amazing and defenatly worth it. Everything else is your chioce as all thouse mointors will be good for gaming. But i dont recomend 19inch WS. If your going to go WS get at least 20.1. Im sure your going to ask about ws so heres my opintion. Its great! I will never go back. Pritty much all new games suport ws and its wonderfull to look at. Its so much more pleasant to look at, and just seems more natural. And some of your links are broken so i cant really compair all the monitors . Now i noticed that you play BF 2142, now your going to have to force the resolution in that game but almost every other game suports WS, its the way of the future . I'l post the WS gaming website in a sec i forget the URL.
mavro6000 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 What about the dell 2007WFP Wide-Screen Black http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...mp;sku=320-4688 I heard good things, even though the response time is high? What are your thoughts? Also, I head that the NEC 20WMGX2 is really good also the http://www.necdisplay.com/products/Product...roductGroup=LCD NEC 90GX2 http://www.necdisplay.com/products/Product...roductGroup=LCD ITs so hard to choose a freakin monitor
Fireonice Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Nec makes some very nice monitors but the 20wmgz2 is out of your budget. What size are u looking at and do you want to go WS. Ask yourself thous questions. Personally i dont see the point of getting anything below 20inches these days. And im not a big fan of dell's moinotrs anymore. Theres tons of things on the net about that.
mavro6000 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I want to spend a max of $400, what can I get for that?
Fireonice Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 For 400$ you can get a 22inch WS like the one i showed you or a smaller 20.1 inch WS, or you could not go WS and get a 20-21 inch mointor in that price range. But first i would decide if you want to go Widescreen and what size monitor you want.
mavro6000 Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks, I will see what I do................
Fireonice Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 If you do decide to go with a 22inch WS, dont even bother looking at multipul manufacures. Every 22 to date uses the same or similar TN lcd board. I only recomend the sceptre over all the other because of the HDMI port, and the 1000:1 contrast ratio and the fact that paying 50 or so more bucks for a "samsung" just doesnt seem worth it to me when its ultimatly the same monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824112005 For any others just stick to good name brands, NEC, Samsung, (sceptre is kinda iffy but there nice, i would concider them a trusted brand but some other might not kinda thing), Viewsonic and you should be fine. Also read the newegg views, monitor reviews is one of the only kind of reviews i even bother reading on newegg. Going to best buy and circit city is alwasy good to beucase then you can get a feel for what size monitor you want, if you want WS or not, ect ect. Sometimes they even might carry the monitor your looking for online at a simlar price.
