Answer: Re. Upgrading HP Pavilion zv6000 Processor

Hi guys. I have a zv6000 (old!) and just started researching for a solution to the more than aging processor.

I have found what appears to be a solution at this forum:

It sounds like you *can* in fact replace the processor with an Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego for a respectable 2.4GHz;

requires an upgrade to the BIOS. In fact, there was one tantalizing response on that thread suggesting it could be updated to support dual-core AMD processors, but both of these rumors are as yet unconfirmed.

I'd REALLY love to get a definite answer to this.

Hope this is helpful to someone, peace

I am still running my zv6000 with a FX-55. Works great! I have tried a 3800 X2 and 4000+. All the cpus work but you only get one core. Hope this is useful. Good luck in your upgrade.

Jason
