firky Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 could you tell us a bit more about your lap top?
Andrewr05 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 BRAND = ? MODEL= ? You may not be very good with computers, but please try to help us help you by giving us more information... Chances are your motherboard can accept a higher CPU (if it isnt soldered into the motherboard i.e non-upgradeable), but if we don't know what model you laptop is or what socket it has then chances are we cant help you any better than you can help yourself... bigred Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 odds are it's socket 754. and it's going to be a bare die (ie no heat spreader) chip. which also means it will more than likely take any socket 754 chip without a heat spreader. Make sure that your sure it is 754 before you buy a new cpu. Also the white stuff is probably eather a thermal pad or thermal paste and like you said it helps transfer heat from the cpu to the heatsink. snakieee Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 exactly how do you check or tell if it is or not...?
Andrewr05 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I checked online and I believe it is 939... Try running CPUz, it will tell you your exact processor and processor socket... Download it here: Direct CPUz download and then take a screenshot and post it on here or just tel us what socket it states.

romeo55 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) Have you checked if it as removable yet? IE: Is it on a socket or is it soldered in And they were talking about the IHS on the CPU itself, does it have the metal plate on top?
