bishop245 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 since suddenlink bought my area from cox my 5Mbit down connection has gone straight to crap here are a couple of speed test to a server about 100 miles from me
kendellrt Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Cox sucks, I had them while I was stationed in NC during active duty time in the Marine Corps. I've just moved to KY a few months ago, I can say that Insight is better, but very inconsistent. I can't game well using my wifi, which I use because I want my PC in a place where there is no cable jack. I had to route some coax (coax wire management FTW!) and directly plug in. They really need to fix or upgrade the fiber backbones. Maybe that is why we only pay $30 for up to 10Mb/s. At least the upload speed is always consistent at 1Mb/s. If you call Insight, they claim that cable networks are not shared connections...hmm... The best service I have ever had was while i wa working in Kalispell, MT (near Glacier National Park) with Bresnan. It was 8Mb/s for $42 and rock solid all day. I also worked in UT, and Verizon was really good there. I have taken a lot of job transfers for promotion opportunities, if you can't tell. What are you using to test your speed? I like speakeasy.net adn dslreports. Good Luck.
BTSchnarfy Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 How long has it been like that? I'm not too sure if I could handle paying the same amount every month for a small fraction of the performance. Are there any other providers in your area? Is Suddenlink even attempting to rectify the situation? Raise hell, man!
asus Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ try that one.. use the um any server but the NY one.. post a SS of that one
kendellrt Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I just used the speed test link from the screen shot you posted. Mine tested at ~6.8Mbps, which is in line for an "up to" 10Mbps line.
romeo55 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I'm with COX west, and my speeds range from 8mb-half a mbit <_< Nothing new
bishop245 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 that cox speedtest server is about 100 miles from my house and while cox still owned my area i stayed at 3Mbit or higher on a 5Mbit plan since suddenlink bought the area it has been like this thats about 6 months worth of worthless service the email i sent them tonight will probably go unanswered just like the one i sent last week this is the email i sent tonight Why is it that since Suddenlink bought my area from Cox my internet service has gone to hell. I work online so I need a good connection something i have not had in the last few months. I would love to get this fixed, but Suddenlink doesn't seem to care. This is email #3 about this problem and nothing has happened yet. I may as well get AOL dialup as it is just as fast as this cable connection I am paying for right now. i just redid the test a little bit ago and i was back to just over 3Mbit so testing on the speakeasy server right now would do no good
neddamttocs Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) did my eyes deceive me or does the right test show negative numbers? Edited January 25, 2007 by neddamttocs
