CheeseMan42 Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 I have 3 computers downstairs, the 148 and the two p3's. I have the 148 connected directly to the internet and want to connect a router to the other ethernet port on my motherboard to plug in the other computers. How can I go about this? The only thing the p3's will need to connect to the internet for is to upload and download new WU's for folding.
exeter_acres Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 it would be safer (hardware firewall) and better for connectivity... to just go....modem to router...then router off to each computer.... perfect connectivity (no loss in speed) and now your systems are invisible to the outside world
hardnrg Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 i used to have this: LAN -> axp rig (eth0: 100M) -> axp rig (eth1: 100M) -> giga switch ->> 2x PCs (3500: 1000M, 170: 1000M) but then XP ICS stopped working so i got a Linksys router LAN -> router (100M) -> giga switch ->>> 3x PCs (axp: 1000M, 3500: 1000M, 170: 1000M) hardware is best... i used to have an ADSL router when i had a shared house and also in my own flat... ICS can work, but hardware router is just a lot more solid imo
CheeseMan42 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I know it would be best to have a router, but that means I need to buy a new one. My old D-Link is a POS, and my Linksys hasn't worked right since my roommate blew the circuit with a space heater. Any recommendations for a good router? exeter_acres Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I've been using a Linksys wrtg54g for quite some time now.... don't know if it is "the best" but it has worked really well for me... no connectivity issues and my wife can take her laptop out in the back yard and still get a good signal
