Stick something in the middle of the board, like a nail or thumbtack with a string attached to the chalk and you have yourself a makeshift compass. You don't find it a wee bit fishy that he was waving his arms all around the board? Ever see a magician/illusionist work? It's all about distracting you from the truth.
