Crow47 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Just curious really. I'm still waiting on my 500w psu from the mail and I am desperate to use my new vid card. Will it run at all? Period? Nevermind other components except the bear minimum. I just want to know if it is possible at all. I realize the card may not run quite as fast, but meh, still an improvement. SMeeD Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I dont give it a good chance, but its going to depend on the PSU if it does.
exeter_acres Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 it may run...but you run the risk of other problems... nto enough power to the hard drive and you start getting corrupted data.. etc. etc. if you have NOTHING on the hard drive that you need to keep... then try it... if you need stuff...then wait till you have a PSU that you can trust
anthony Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Wait it out the last thing you would want is that power supply to give in and take our that brand new video card of yours and maybe a few other parts of your rig. What is your new power supply? Waiting will only make it sweeter
Crow47 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Thanks for the help. I was starting to get a bit itchy on that. I'll wait.
krazymonkey500 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I have a friend that is running a 7900GS on a 300 watt psu. I told him it wasn't a very good idea, but he says it runs fine and isn't experiencing any performance problems. Like everyone else said, if you want to stay on the safe side, it would be best not to. But it can work if you want to try it out.
