How To Prevent It From Ever Getting Stolen?

Okay my familly and I previously had a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country LE. But it was stolen like a few months ago. And now like 3 days ago my family and I bought a new minivan, it's a 2007 Nissan Quest SE Fully Loaded. OMG I LOVE IT this thing is absolutely gorgeous. But living in this New York area things tend to get stolen here easily like our previous minivan did. Is there any other ways to protect it from getting stolen like some tips and tricks. So far a security camera with day/night vision has been added to my house, we bought a brake lock, and we bought a steering wheel lock too. And yes it does have a really loud Anti-Auto Theft Alarm, although people still tend to get threw that. Is there any other things we can do to prevent it from getting stolen. Oh yeah and we will be either signing up for "Lo Jack" or "OnStar" maybe. Any suggetions guys or any tips and tricks?

BTW: I also heard that when you park your car, leaving the tires turned left or right while parked will give people a harder time to steal it and possibly prevent it, is this true?

If you guys would like to, I would think about upgrading the alarm on the the van...I bought one from the local car audio store that I used to work at so I got a huge discount...but its a Phonics Digital 2 way paging car alarm...

pd-175.jpg

PD-175

2-WAY CAR ALARM WITH LCD DISPLAY

LONG RANGE FM SYSTEM (UP TO 3000ft.)

CAR/ALARM STATUS LCD DISPLAY ON REMOTE

VISUAL AND AUDIO ALERT ON REMOTE

DUAL ZONE MONITORING SHOCK SENSOR

AUTO-LOCK/UNLOCK

ANTI CAR-JACKING SYSTEM

DOORS/TRUNK/HOOD SENSORS

REMOTE ENGINE START (OPTIONAL)

AUTO RE-LOCKING

TRUNK RELEASE BY REMOTE

REMOTE EASY KEY-LOCK

CURRENT SENSING CIRCUIT

STATUS LED

SILENT ARM/DISARM

FLASHING HEADLIGHTS

127dB SIERN

REMOTE PANIC

SENSOR BYPASS BY REMOTE

VALET/OVERRIDE FUNCTIONS

STARTER DISABLE OUTPUT

I dont know where you could get one around your house but it is a really nice alarm...the 3 features I like about it is that it is 2 way paging (meaning if the alarm is going off, the clicker on your key chain beeps at you letting you know), the FM transmitter (it works like 1/4 mile away from the car) and the shock sensor (it is adjustable but on the highest sensitivity, the alarm will go off if something touches the car or there is a loud noise by your car)

It is great for when I drive out to the Northside of Flint and see my friends and for leaving it on campus at school...I have had one person attempt to break into my car, and my alarm started to go off and I went to go see my car, because the keychain clicker let me know this was happening...and I saw the person running away from the car, luckly they were not able to do any damage...

Also the alarm system is capable of being remote start, but I didnt get that option installed due to the fact that my car is a stick shift...

I dont know if this infromation is even close to what you wanted to know, but this is my 2 cents on the subject...

<-----EDIT----->

If you are interested...I found one online for you...

If you plan to buy it, first I would go to a local store such as Dukes Car Audio store, Best Buy, or something similar that would install car alarms and see if they would install it for you and get a price quote...

get one with starter kill, get lojack, or do what i did allready with my new scion, i got the keypad that was in teh first transportor to start my car. $30 :D

Really? That would be cool, where did you get that thing at and did you install it yourself? That would be awesome to start your car push in the clutch, and enter a password and then press the gas and your off...

There is no way to keep it from getting stolen...everything you can buy, the crooks can buy too and hack it to figure out the weak points.

I would say go with a nice 2 way paging alarm so you know what is going on. Lo-jack would also be good so that you can recover your vehicle if ever does get stolen. Also, I would put in a blinking LED somewhere on the dash.

Another thing you could do is add a motorcycle alarm and mount it under the rear of the van. It is a fairly cheap alarm (~$100 but I'm not too sure on that) and sets off an alarm if it senses motion.

Lo Jack. I don't know how you can have such a problem with theft though. I park in some pretty shady area's without a problem. I make sure I lock my car all the time.

You could also mod a secret switch somewhere into your car that interupts the flow of the battery. Of course then your clock would never be right and who knows if that can cause problems with the car's computer. Talk to a mechanic if you want to do it.

Another thing that you could always do, but is risky is throw a switch on your ignition wire and hide that SOB under the dash or if you want to get really tricky in the trunk so you have to flip the switch for the car to even start, most people would just think somethings wrong with the car...I was going to do that and have it down by the drivers seat, but I dont want to cut my ignition wire...Just incase something goes wrong...but its always an idea...

Get a crappier car, or at least make the one you have looks different... I have a 1995 Ford Taurus and I have left it unlocked (accidentally) for two days in a row at school, and its not really the nicest school around either, but because there are so many better options, mine has been left alone...

Oh yeah, not to hijack, but I did go back, w00t :)

No it's Lo Armistead!

I agree, Lo Jack is a useful alternative, and it works more often than not.

The battery mod would definitely screw with the onboard computer and cause it to ride funny...all the time, as the computer would have to recalibrate itself each time you reconnected the battery.

a determined and skilled thief will neither be deterred or caught by lo-jack. nor will the club and other crap even make them think twice. same goes for alarms. if they know what they're doing and want it there's no stopping them. my suggestion has always worked for me. don't park the vehicle on the street after dark, don't park in the drive way along side the house after dark except behind the gate (where dog's lurk), or better yet get em in the garage. I've lived in some shady places, and have had idiots try to steal my truck (it was an obvious target when it was painted bright orange, was less than 15 seconds from the detroit border, was visible from 3 major roads including i75 and it was definitely loaded)... stupid fools didn't account for a LARGE and less than friendly dog in the back yard :) good ol' pooch chased one kid up on top of the truck and another backed into a corner. god I loved that animal... though she seemed to hate just about everyone. of course it would have been in the garage at that house... had it FIT in the garage... lousy little garage.

btw this is going into the right section of the forums... the car section.

Get a crappier car

Yeah get a car that is it's own theft detterent. One they wouldn't want to steal.

really I don't think there is anything to actually prevent it from being stolen. Maybe get lojack to help find it afterwards.
