How Do You Remove The 9700`s Heat Sink?

Halogen

Recommended Posts

Im trying to improve my ati 9700 pro heat dissipation, so need to remove the heat sink so that i can Lap it and also make a better contact between the chip and H-sink. I tried pushing and pulling the little sort of nails with springs but I just was afraid of damaging it if i tried with more force

Any suggestions please?

take a exactoknife cut them.. it will come out.. u can actually.. if you add a decent amount of force take them out.. but its just easier to cut expecially if ur just replacing the heatsink..

you will then want a hair dryer and put it on high and put heat on the heatsink.. for about.. 35 sec or so.. then take a screw driver (reg. (flathead)) and kinda stick it under there and turn it a bit.. sink should popright off..

Do u see those 2 little bezels on the under side of the board that hold the heatsink in place. You can use yur fingers or a nose pliers. Just squeeze them together and push up wards until they pop out. LOL dont cut them off, u cant put them back if u cut them off.

ANd if u want to remove that metal shim around the ati core. Use a really sharp knife or a utility blacde and slice it the all around and just lift it.
