Celcius Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I wanted to get a custom painted keyboard and mouse, so first I asked alienware if I could buy a chameleon green keyboard & mouse, but they said they're out of stock. Next I turned to falcon-nw to ask if they'd sell me a custom painted keyboard & mouse, examples here: http://www.falcon-nw.com/images/ICON_Blueflames_hi.jpg http://www.falcon-nw.com/images/ICON_ATI_Red_right_hi.jpg but they only sell stuff to people who buy systems. Last, I turned to Smooth Creations: http://www.smoothcreations.com/pilot.asp?pg=visuals They do really good jobs and specialize in painting pc parts. I asked for an estimate to paint my MX518 & keyboard and they said $100. I'm really considering it since the paint jobs are really amazing, but $100 is more than my mouse & keyboard cost me in the first place lol. Has anyone else had a pc part custom painted? I have a friend who has a custom body shop, and he'll spray anything I prep and bring to him, so of course I'd never pay for it, but even still... I doubt you can get a color-change paint like that in a can, but you can still get a flashy metallic or pearl-style that would look great. The trick to getting a finish like that is wet-sanding and clear coats. Heck, pick up a crappy (maybe even broken) keyboard and try it yourself. A can of color and clear with sandpaper will cost you what, $8? I'd say try it yourself before you pay $100 plus shipping. It's up to you. I would agree with Verran though, if you want it done then give it a go yourself and try it on an old piece of kit first. With a bit of patience you should be able to achieve a very nice result. hardnrg Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 ask your local bodyshop... a lot of full case modders get bodyshops to do the paintwork as it is very hard to achieve a showroom finish at home unless you have a paint gun (or spend a LOT of money on rattle-cans...) any kind of super duper pearlescent or metallic flake paint jobs you'd want done properly and bodyshops would do it pretty cheap for something so small... if you do some of the prep work (ie. sanding) then it would probably be really cheap as the work for them would be almost entirely spraying Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The director came up with the idea of a red one, but when he asked Swingline for one, they said they didn't exist. He asked for permission to "brand" a red one for the movie, and they said fine.
