g1ng3r Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I have a x800XL (AGP) Its great! I have a AMD XP 2600+ which is the bottleneck on my pc. I can still play most game with good fps - I get above 30fps on all my games so far so iam happy!
candle_86 Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 its the FSB dependecy of the Evo6 Bus Protocol, tied to small L2, lacking SSE2+. thats the problem with the XP chips and no amount of OC makes up for a 400mhz max speed across the bus. Even at 2.6 I wouldnt recomend over a 6800 Vanillia or x800GTO, as they system just isnt worth it these days.
tazwegion Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I think he may have been implying that he wants to upgrade LMAO * gives a cookie to Bleeble * Yup, I have been pondering an AGP upgrade for a while, as I'm still using the R9600XT on my Neo2 Platinum/3700+ platform

romeo55 Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 so which car would be my limit? i just hate how the radeon 9800 pro is only like 50 bux cheaper then the x series though.. i can easily just buy an x800 series with alittle more cash. which i think is worth it. and x850 pro will blow a 9800pro out of the water in many games... although, i'd start saving up for a new system.... a good am2/754 sempron system can be had for about $150 (which will stomp all over that AXP) and you can get a PCI-E card with that for cheap that'll blow that entire system away

I was surprised at the price of some of those motherboards for AM2, they were a lot cheaper than I thought. Im going to have to say that dead 9800 pro should be an "excuse" to build a new system. Silverfox Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 well my advice would be get something to tide you over for a while. Ie/ an X800GTO - it's a bit better than the 9800pro, but you really shouldnt be looking to "upgrade" with that system - it will cost you more in the long-run really. but its your call - Gs it is! robAP Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 (edited) I'm agreeing with some of the posters above. I was faced with the same delimma and was looking to upgrade my 9800 pro. It was explained to me that for a socket-A system, an AGP Nvidia 6000 series card or equivalent was the best bet. the APG 7000 series was only really usable for a socket 754 system. i understand they both fit in the A but the cpu limits the 7000 series so the 6k is the place to go....so whatever the equivalent to that 6k series card in ATI would be the other choice there as well. so in the end i agree most with silverfox, as its best to get something to tide you over until you decide to do a full system upgrade. After weighing my options i decided on a x1900xt and a system to support it. I'm so glad i did. because if you thihnk abotu it, a $150 card to tide you over could go into a new rig. How long after you get that AGP card will you be getting a PCI-e system? and how will a $150 pci-e card perform compared to the AGP one? if your gonna hold onto the barton system for a while yet then i think the AGP would be a decent investment. so pop for a used higher end 6k series or the 850 card. good luck..... now to find a review comparing the GTO and the 6k series cards together on an OC'd aocket A setup........(im asking for a bit much i think) Edited December 13, 2006 by robAP
kingdingeling Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 robAP, welcome back! Haven't seen you around for a while. To clear things up a little bit, he's bought a 7800GS already. If you can, help us fold off team Anandtech, they are gonna pass us in like 2 weeks, so PLEASE install some folding and help us keep the 22nd spot! btw, GPU folding works on the X1900 card series
